Good opening championship game tonight in the Park with some very good scores from both sides.Thought Athlone were very slow in their build up play early on but were more lively in second half.Lomans very quick in transition where Fola and TJ Cox were excellant.

They will do well, dark horses now for me. St. Lomans just time and time again are able to see out these games. They were below par but Athlone will be hard beaten in this group."
Athlone dark horses? Shows the strength of the championship at the moment!

Decent start to the championships tonight in Cusack Park, Athlone were more competitive than many, including myself, would have expected. The extra bit of quality in Lomans came through in the end, but the way Athlone troubled them at times would suggest that the outcome of this championship is not a foregone conclusion, Lomans still favourites for a few more rounds at least anyway.

Very interesting result in Killucan in the junior, Paul's springing a surprise, anyone any insight as to what happened CFCW, were both teams at full strength or what was the quality of the game like? The low scoring nature would suggest a defensive cagey affair.
St Joseph's look to have had a routine enough win against Ballycomoyle, that was to be expected anyway.
Bun got over Moate by a tight enough margin considering that Moate are the only second string outfit in this group, still a win is a win and sets them off on the right foot.
An awful lot to play for next week in this division as a second win in 2 games would set a side up well for a knockout place, 2 losses would leave a team in jeopardy early on.

Roll on tomorrows ties…

Lomans were poor minus John Heslin, might just sharpen minds a bit from any complacency that was setting in. Sam McCartan was outstanding. Athlone were much better than I thought and should give Caulry and Tpass a good rattle

Dark horses to do very well, not win it out I wouldn't think, but they might very well make a semi. They have been written off a little bit but they will do well, if of course, they react well to how they played last night. It's hard against St. Lomans because if you keep 3 quiet, the other 3 will step up. Peter Foy was on fire in the first half, he got 2 or 3 points but when they stepped up on Foy in the second half, Sam McCartan from half back pushed on and he got his scores. That happens everywhere along that Lomans team. They are just too hard handled. Mark one tight and it just leaves room for another. Ronan O' Toole, Tj Cox, Fola, then in comes Dempsey, You have Danny McCartan, Sam, Heslin to come back. The problem for the rest of the county is who to put their best defenders on, and most teams only have 1 or 2 man markers.

Good win for The Downs too over Moate 1-18,2-6. Both sides kicked alot of wides. I counted at least 5 key players missing for The Downs so that will no doubt impact their junior team too. Based on this performance Moate could struggle to stay up.

They'll have their hands full beating Shandonagh today and staying senior is their goal for the year surely. The Downs guaranteed to win group, Moate probably second

Not sure where the faith in Moate comes from. They blew up last year and have a tendency to turn on each other. Second is anybodys. But you're right about shamrocks

On yesterdays showing Moate wont be getting out of the B. They were so poor standing off The Downs forwards, Luke and Andrew Kilmartin had a field day

The Downs were champions two years ago, total anomaly them being in section B, they were unlucky last year with results and injuries, they'll comprehensively beat every team in section B and easily win quarter final against fourth place in section A, with Mitchell, Lynam and Kevin O' Sullivan back then they'll be a team to be avoided in semi final, they'll have serious momentum.

Good wins yesterday evening for the Downs and Tyrellspass.Downs had it easy enough against Moate who were very poor-Downs missing a few as well so will probably be favs to win out Div 2.Tyrellspass v Caulry was poor enough game with both sides making many mistakes-both of the Pass goals were shocking errors by Caulry-Athlone wont have to much worries facing these 2 sides.!!

On a separate note, I heard from a steward that the Park will be closed for the duration of next years NFL due to upgrade of facilities

Yeah The Downs. Couldn't hold an inter county match in Athlone I don't think. Lomans not too bad but the Downs will facilitate the biggest crowd

I also predicted The mighty Tang by 3 gosson, there won't be a hand in a pocket tonight in Maghera. More power to them.
