Of course I am serious if you havent ambition you have nothing.Would an Offaly man be dreaming if they had those performances.Yes he would. Why not us?
If football people are thinking like you tell Luke Loughlin go with the hurlers. We threw away the game with Armagh last year and gave Galway plenty of it when it was 15 v 15 this year. The league is going to be huge for us

There's a big difference between containing a team (not getting embarrassed) and actually going to win these games. We're doing well to be where we are. Our ceiling is All Ireland Qtr final, maybe a semi maximum if we got a miracle draw.

Where was it indicated that we lacked ambition? Footballers' performances in Sam Maguire last two years have been excellent but ultimately fell short. Unfortunately the age profile of the side plus players travelling means it will be an achievement to be competitive in division 2 next year and many football people in the county are concerned that two successive relegations in the league is a possibility. It's highly likely that at least 5 starters from Newry game will not be part of new panel. We don't have the strength in depth of other counties, Stefan Campbell and Jarly Og Burns didn't start for Armagh on Saturday, they'd be guaranteed starters in 27-28 other counties. Likewise Johnny Heaney, Kieran Molloy, Tomo Culhane for Galway.

Agree completely. While our performances were excellent we were in our 5th gear while our opposition were not even out of 3rd gear. Can anyone say that the Armagh or Galway team we played were anything like the machines they were at the weekend? I'm all on for positive thinking but you have to keep expectations real also.

St. Lomans & Athlone to draw
Caulry by 2
Kinnegad by 7

The Downs by 5
Killucan by 2
Mullingar Shamrocks by 6

St. Lomans & Athlone will be far tighter than expected due to rumors of St.Lomans being down a few players/ quite a few in holiday mode. Going with a draw, if not a suprise first round win for Athlone. It won't affect St. Lomans winning the championship but they might be caught in this one.

Yes, two of those lads in the States and Mitch is injured, big losses in a group where 8-9 points will be needed to qualify.

Any players to look out for in the championship that might step up and play county next year? These are some players I have been impressed by this year after watching Westmeath u20s, a few league games and league finals.

Paddy Fagan (Shamrocks)
Michael Monaghan (G-Castle)
Jack Geoghegan (Lomans)
Eoin O'Brien (Kinnegad)
Darragh Lowry (Moate)
Fred Kelleher (T-Clair)
Brandon Kelly (M-Pass)
Jack Duncan (Miltown)
Kieran Colclough (Athlone)

It's great to have the Westmeath GAA Podcast back. A very enjoyable listen and really hope that they have one after each round of games. The new app is great, went on to buy my tickets this evening. Championship weekend is here. Hopefully a few surprises over the weekend to keep things interesting from the start.

A bit late for Paddy Fagan. The rest aren't bad, particularly like Lowry

Good call Warrior, a lot tighter than expected and a scoreline that will give Athlone great optimism for next couple of key matches. Sides were level tonight with ten mins left.

Nearly lol but I knew that Athlone team were a really good side and they will definitely feel very frustrated that they didn't get anything out of that game. They will do well, dark horses now for me. St. Lomans just time and time again are able to see out these games. They were below par but Athlone will be hard beaten in this group.
