Tis the silly season with lots of vacancies I believe. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1182 - 28/11/2021 21:43:15 2391066 Link 0 |
Dolan and Keane stepped down after county final. Keane gone in to the county set up Expect he will bring 6 or 7 Garrycastle players with him after having a great season Temple56 (Westmeath) - Posts: 545 - 29/11/2021 12:13:23 2391101 Link 0 |
There will be some changes. You would imagine Kelly will stay with Lomans as long as they are in Leinster but he is hot property at the minute particularly in his native Offaly where you would imagine one of the bigger clubs there could come looking for him. Dolan and Keane are gone from Garrycastle. A fresh face could benefit them. Bringing on Dessie in the drawn final was an odd move and you would have to imagine it would have left a sour taste with many in the squad. Especially those training all year and on the fringes hoping to get a run in a county final. The big names like Sheedy, McHale and Davy Byrne flattered to deceive and it proved that big expensive outside names aren't always the way to go. In contrast though Shane Curran had a good year with Caulry. Twaddle has done a good job with Moate. Nobody would have fancied them to win intermediate and they more than held their own in senior this year. Interesting times ahead

6 or 7? That's more than 20% of the panel. They had 1 this year, and he's over 30. I'd say there will be 3, max. Certainly if we are talking about a 26 player match panel.

When I said 6 or 7 I meant they would be brought into to the training panel like most players that have had good championships normally do. I don't expect them all to make the cut I would also only expect 2/3 to make the championship 26 man panel. Temple56 (Westmeath) - Posts: 545 - 29/11/2021 16:37:34 2391140 Link 0 |
6 or 7 bit of a stretch, Dolan be on it because last 10 years but had a poor championship gardiner needs to be in the team, after that mark mccallon but has opted out last few years other than that there's nobody else. A good championship defo doesn't mean your in the squad some county players have been bang average for years at even intermediate level and still in county set up. Looking at Garrycastle I think that Eoin Mulvihill should definitely be there and Andrew Monaghan should probably be given a look too. McCallon is the best back in the county in my opinion but as you say he has opted out the last few years. If he was interested at all and you add Dolan and Gardiner that would be 5 that I would say are definitely worth their place on an extended panel at least. Barrett and Donohoe had good years overall too. Not sure they'll make the training panel but it wouldn't be a huge shock if they got the call. You could just as easily end up with only a couple of them though, depending on whether they want to commit. anon (None) - Posts: 356 - 01/12/2021 13:53:08 2391299 Link 0 |
Twaddle isn't staying with Moate. I heard today he is going in as selector with the Longford seniors and also managing the Longford county under 20's.

Agree about mccallon but none of the rest, eoin Monaghan a good final. Barrett defo not, Andrew Monaghan defo not, donaghue maybe but had a sweeper in front of him both finals.

Fair play to him. His good work is being rewarded. He owes Moate nothing after his stint there. It will be interesting to see who they bring in. A more appealing job than it was a few years ago.

Certainly is. A very solid first year up at senior, and so close to getting in to Group A. Plus some excellent prospects coming up from minor. However, that group B is going to be a minefield again , and they could just as easily end up 6th (and relegated) as 1st. jamsie (Westmeath) - Posts: 471 - 02/12/2021 10:12:44 2391375 Link 0 |

Seems strange but no guarantees that Declan Kelly will be staying with Loman's. Obviously a lot depends on Leinster club campaign but some prominent Loman's supporters were openly critical of team selection for both finals. The added issue of clubs in Offaly and elsewhere being interested in a manager who has had a phenomenal year at club and county level. I'd have thought a three in a row tilt would be enough for any club to retain a manager but stranger things have happened Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 2131 - 04/12/2021 21:45:13 2391681 Link 0 |
I can't see the benefit of this to Athlone. You'd be sure he's not a cheaper option and his record in the two years wasn't great. Surely there is someone around Athlone that could come in there.

Quite surprised Athlone are sticking with McHale after performances the last two years. Left Full (Westmeath) - Posts: 255 - 10/12/2021 18:07:38 2392340 Link 0 |
They may be happy with him and the reason they haven't done better is down to the players.

Interesting, assume that's the lad with the Aspire Gym near Clara, think he did S&C wotk with Westmeath previously and played for Offaly. Don't recall him being a coach / manager anywhere else but could be wrong.

Big news in The Downs. Lar Wall in as senior team manager and Steven Cleary announced as boss in Multyfarnham. Lar Wall did well in Kells and will hope to go one step further with The Downs. Looks like a good appointment. Joe Quinn confirmed at Rosemount. BigSur (Westmeath) - Posts: 1182 - 18/12/2021 08:42:46 2393127 Link 0 |
