You obviously weren't at that match v clonkill because Clonkill didn't get any late goals, Murtagh did score two, one in first half and one early in second. It's people like this that have agendas and don't deal I'm facts that give these forums a bad name. Clonkill got within 9 points. CTG were beat by 25. Ballyhale went on to win all-ireland in 19. They are the facts Onionbagger (Westmeath) - Posts: 85 - 13/11/2022 18:44:24 2447418 Link 0 |
No I was at that game and Ballyhale were under no threat from Clonkill. So it sounds like you, who has an agenda. Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 972 - 13/11/2022 21:13:02 2447453 Link 1 |
Also that game was played in Mullingar, not Nowlan Park.

Ah lads, no one outside of a few CTG/Clonkill needlers actually gives fiddlers about the margin. They both lost and weren't going to win. Ballyhale is the best-ever hurling club in the country. They have 8x Club All Irelands and I can't imagine the number of all-stars or Celtic crosses on the mantlepieces in the area. gedupoutofit (Westmeath) - Posts: 172 - 14/11/2022 16:10:46 2447554 Link 5 |
That's a noble aspiration but speaking to a few who attended and what stood out was the sheer gap in physicality and obviously speed at which skills were completed at. Ballyhale are an incredible side but on yesterday's evidence would many of the Castletown players make their starting fifteen? That's the worrying aspect considering Joe Fortune would be relying on 5-6 Castletown players to be in his first fifteen or thereabouts. St. Mullins in Carlow and Naas produced big wins in the same competition, albeit against sides not at Ballyhale's level. Our club hurling sides have rarely threatened a big shock at provincial level. Will they actually finish that competition?

Future definitely bright for CTG. Peter Clarke and Jack Gallagher were very good vs Ballyhale, David O'Reilly has been excellent all year. David Maloney, Peter Murphy, Sean Jackson etc to come up into that panel next year and challenge for a spot on the starting 15 as well. As was rightly stated there, we need a couple of teams to come up to the standard of CTG, Raharney and Clonkill. Lough Lene Gaels and Pollard are the closest to it, time will tell if they come up to that standard, it'd be great for Westmeath if they did. He'll be a big loss if true, but he probably needs a break as well. He's been plagued with injuries of late and that's definitely impacted his form all year. A break away from constant training and games could be a good thing for him and might see him shake off the plaguing injuries he's been having the last while.

Tough times for you considering this weekend sees the culmination of all fixtures for the year, every final played, competitions completed, am sure you'll find a gripe somewhere though. Lot easier to light a candle than curse the dark I find. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1972 - 18/11/2022 16:26:20 2448097 Link 0 |
It hasn't been mentioned here yet but well done to St Oliver Plunketts on winning the u15 Division 1 championship, finally a team has broken the dominance held by Clonkill, Castletown and Raharney. Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 972 - 20/11/2022 09:28:56 2448201 Link 2 |

Its refixed for this Saturday, fair play to county board for postponing last minute due to a family emergency in one of the teams

Great to see Niall Mitchell shoot down Dessie Dolans approach to join the senior footballers and to stick with the hurlers. He's a very talented footballer but twice as talented a hurler as he's widely known as across the country. Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 972 - 01/12/2022 14:22:57 2449241 Link 1 |
Hearing Clonkill maybe going outside the club for the manager of senior team for first time in years. Onionbagger (Westmeath) - Posts: 85 - 02/12/2022 18:01:36 2449362 Link 0 |
