Castletown have the best hurlers in the county, they were unlucky to have not won another one or two of those 4 finals. I'd expect them to back it up next year as well. Currently going for 3 minors in a row and a double in u19, the players are there, and more coming. They always have that tradition of producing fine, wristy hurlers. David O'Reilly and Peter Clarke have been super additions to the senior team and Peter Murphy, Sean Jackson, and David Maloney have the potential to come into that team next year. Seriously tough taskfor them vs Ballyhale Shamrocks down in Nowlan Park in a couple of weeks time, but they are well capable of giving them plenty of it, they'll need Aonghus Clarke back on top form to attempt to go toe to toe with the best club team in Ireland. Without a doubt they have serious talent and they showed real bottle this year.If Aonghus Clarke ,Clavin and Varley return to their very best they can be competive with Ballyhale.History shows they win a championship playing lovely quality hurlng and then disappear for a couple of years. As usual rumours of players going travelling in 2023.

Brilliant Minor A hurling final in the Downs today, very exciting to the very end. Castletown winning their third minor championship in a row, a great achievement. Peter Murphy, Shane Corcoran, Sean Jackson outstanding today for them. They are coming with a new team, behind the team that won the senior championship this year. Hard luck to killian Doyle but still a massive achievement even to be nominated with such stars of the modern game. Bigjoe1 (Westmeath) - Posts: 59 - 28/10/2022 21:08:57 2445826 Link 2 |
Considering some of the hurlers who weren't nominated, any nomination is a big achievement

great to be recognized .. bet hes happy with that. shamrocks really turned on the style in county final when they had a guy sent off.. brillant hurling for that time of year. going be very hard for ctg to keep the score down. but a tight first half would be a good effort for them. any injuries ? kilshamrocks (Westmeath) - Posts: 79 - 02/11/2022 09:27:37 2446182 Link 0 |
Any thoughts on how Castletown will square up against Ballyhale this weekend ? 35OLT (USA) - Posts: 99 - 07/11/2022 18:45:45 2446795 Link 0 |
Ballyhale are one of the favourites for the all Ireland so its a mammoth task for CTG, especially down in Nowlan Park! Most teams would do well to get within 10 pts of Ballyhale. Castletown can definitely put it up to them, they will need Liam Varley, Niall O'Brien, Michael Heeney, Johnny Bermingham, Peter Clarke, David O'Reilly and especially Aonghus Clarke on top form. Aonghus hasn't been playing to his lofty standards all year, but if he turns up at the weekend it'll give Castletown a good chance of being competitive.

If Castletown hold them to a point a man they'll have done well

Considering what Ballygunner did to Kilruane on Sunday I'd say Castletown would gladly take a 10-12 defeat, Balylhale on a mission after last minute defeat in last year's final, they'd beat 21-22 inter county teams. Castletown have had a lengthy gap since final but have prepared well. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1972 - 08/11/2022 12:52:55 2446868 Link 0 |
Ringtown very very unlucky today to be bet after extra time. They were a point up going into injury time of normal time and looked like they were going to win after being 5 points down at half time. They looked like the tank was empty in extra time unfortunately. Ringtown were by far the better team overall but hit far to many wides and missed 2 or 3 definite goal chances Hurlingmad12 (Westmeath) - Posts: 27 - 12/11/2022 19:05:32 2447319 Link 0 |
Great effort by Ringtown today, v unlucky not to win the game in normal time, were kinda spun out in et but still should be v proud, kilkenny clubs have a stranglehold on the leinster junior and will be interesting to see how black and whites do going forward. Ringtown a small rural club with a great history and tradition let's hope they keep moving forward and rid this notion of amalgamation with other small clubs. preddan (Kildare) - Posts: 763 - 12/11/2022 19:18:34 2447321 Link 0 |
If you can't field a team, you have to amalgamate valley84 (Westmeath) - Posts: 1901 - 12/11/2022 20:39:26 2447334 Link 0 |
Ringtown had 34 togged out yesterday so dont think numbers is an issue there and alot of them are only young lads

5-25 to 0-15 for Ballyhale, prob par for the course, Ballyhale greatest club team of all time, they'd beat 21-22 inter county sides. Claretandblue (Westmeath) - Posts: 1972 - 13/11/2022 15:21:22 2447382 Link 1 |

Some hammering. Clonkill got within 9 points of them in 2019 5 points in it with 10 to go, was a great game with TJ might I add. That today was brutal for anyone involved with Westmeath hurling. Onionbagger (Westmeath) - Posts: 85 - 13/11/2022 16:53:35 2447397 Link 0 |
Castletown were always going to be up against it down in Nowlan Park today, as a previous post said, Ballyhale are the best club team of all time and would beat a lot of inter County sides. Of Clonkill or Raharney went down today it'd have been the same outcome. Castletown's young players tried hard, particularly Jack Gallagher and Peter Clarke scoring 0-07 from play between them. They'll be back stronger next season with some promising players from minor and possibly a few players returning. Ballyhale will win out Leinster comfortably and i expect them to win the All Ireland too Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 972 - 13/11/2022 17:42:16 2447404 Link 0 |
Ballyhale cruised to victory three years ago versus Clonkill, it was never a contest, Clonkill's late goals put a flattering look on scoreboard, Ballyhale a different animal now after defeat in injury time of last year's All Ireland final, they've won Kilkenny at a canter and resting TJ today for bigger tests down the line shows their intent. Tipp champions were beaten by 14-15 last week by Ballygunner, there are three outstanding sides left in All Ireland club, Ballyhale, Na Piarsaigh and Ballygunner.
