Hopefully our players haven't read any of the comments posted here about being certs for promotion as clearly it was a major factor in Carlow's victory!!! The Limerick page must be full of posters criticising their players who then perform heroically to prove the pundits wrong!!!!!!!

Saying Limerick being top class contenders is reality. Suggesting Westmeath being far superior to Carlow is delusional

U20s out this weekend in the development league. Nothing on our social media about an opposition or a venue of course.

I seen that the footballers were in Kinnegad on Sunday vs Monaghan, the very best of luck to them.
I was just wondering where the u20 hurlers are playing, I think they are out against Kildare.

Yes in the Leinster championship, but I'm talking about the newly formed Leinster u20 development league. Westmeath play Kildare, Laois play Carlow and Offaly play Meath in the first round.

Any team for Meath? We need a big improvement

Brilliant performance in Trim. Everything that failed in Carlow worked today. Mitchell a thorn in Meath side all through. Backs in total control and midfield improved immensely. Congratulations al round

Didn't get to make the game but a very comprehensive win and perhaps last week was just a blip vs Carlow.
Carlow beaten today.
Who stood out for Westmeath?

Jogger and Mitchell stood out. Good all round but game over at half time. Messy second half.. lots of scores left out there. Could have annihilated Meath who were very poor.

Good display but consistency is needed. With the Kilmoyley players back Kerry will obviously be a danger to our promotion hopes. This team must win promotion back to division 1 so not an ounce of complacency in any match.I think the team that tops the table and avoids a semi final will have an advantage so Down next.

When will Niall O'Brien and Davy Glennon be back from injury? None of the u20s involved vs Meath either, maybe the u20s were out on the same day.
Good to see Eoghan Ahearn playing yesterday after coming back from playing midfield for Maynooth in Fitzgibbon Cup, how did he fair?

Ahearne got about 25 minutes got a point and was an improvement.Regan had his worst game for county.O Brien and Glennon cant be too far away so will add a lot to forwards. We need to get more from some of the lads who didnt do the hard winter work you can see it in their play. a break is all fine but at this level a pre season is needed

Went to the u20 game last night, disappointing to lose but something that's obvious with this group is a lack of physicality, but when reading the team sheet it was easy to see why.. only 3 starters on their last year and one of them was taken off early. I'm not expecting much this year at u20 for that very reason. With the majority of the players with 2 years more at u20, maybe being exposed to playing against more physical and older teams will benefit them down the line. Very impressed with Peter Clarke and David O'Reilly from CTG, and Gaffney from Castlepollard. Despite being very young, they stood out when county senior panelists did not.
Looking forward to Down in senior this Sunday, hopefully we bring the performance from last weekend on another level again.

Those three lads mentioned were all minors last year and all three are very skilful players with good pace. Being so young they lack physicality necessary at this level but they have the necessary attributes to make it, attitude of those three are all excellent, strength and conditioning needed but I'd rather have lads who have the skills but lack the physicality at this stage as physicality can be improved.

We were at our worst and Down were at their very best. Joe Fortune under big pressure now.

I have no interest in the hurlers but the manager sure talks a good game. Pity the team don't back it up

The manager's comments about unfair criticism after the no show versus Carlow were out of order and the management can expect a volley of criticism in the wake of today's abject display. Replacing Derek McNich was mystifying when there were other obvious candidates to be replaced. Darragh Egerton and Jogger again played well and Joey Boyle scored at least three points from play. Questions about fitness levels again surface about a Westmeath Senior side. Longford out ran us yesterday in the third and fourth quarters and Down out scored us in the closing 25 mins by 8 points to 1. That statistic alone in a home league match says it all. Our national ranking is closer to 16th or 17th based on league form. The thoughts of facing Galway and Kilkenny in 5 weeks is not exactly appealing.
