Replying To Onion Breath:  "Yeah don't be worrying yourself we won't be getting carried away after today sure we know well it was only Wicklow we beat … our (only) traditional whipping boys. Seen as we've played ye now 31 times in senior championship football and ye've only ever beaten us 6 times it's not like this is a novelty.

Btw the Carlow team today had a younger average age than Wicklow … so we're young too.

But them's just facts. Don't let them stop you dreaming on as if Wicklow are on the precipice of some significant breakthrough."
You'd know all getting carried away and fall back to earth with a bump considering the reaction when ye beat Kildare a few years ago. Where did that particular adventure go? Seem to fizzle out in a short space of time. Didn't hear much from you till this evening.

There's no real need to post Onion Breath. Sponger does all of the heavy lifting all here. Post anyway though, always good posts.

Seems to be a lot of Carlow supporters come out of the woodwork suddenly who haven't been heard from, for quite a long time. I suppose one victory does make your summer.

Because it's a rumour it's not worth a comment.

Big game away to Longford on Saturday. Lose this match and realistically we won't be progressing in the Tailteann Cup. Last weekend's result was bad but the way we lost made it much worse. It is important to get the result right this weekend and bounce back against superior opposition to Carlow and away in Longford which is a difficult place for Wicklow in the past. I'm hoping for a big reaction from the team to what happened against Carlow. I hope we, as a county, bounce back and don't go out with a whimper. It is important for this team that they can prove they learn from games like last weekend and rectify what they did wrong. Best of luck to all involved.

That's that for this year. I could never see how, on last Sundays performance, we were going to beat Longford. Presently we wouldn't beat many, if any. Sometimes I think I am looking at different matches to others. Staying in Div 3 next year is looking tougher by the game. Having said that, we must say well done to Casey and the lads. I realise we shouldn't read too much into todays result as both teams were giving some leading lights a rest. The final should be a cracker.

Another embarrasing defeat. After 60 years of following our seniors I now finally relaise that it is time to pull the plug. Despite a great sponship deal and a high profile personality in charge the performances have gone from bad to worse and our presence in division 3 will be a short one if today's display is anything to go on.
Let's put the sponsorship money into the juveniles and hire the best coaches possible to build some sort of reputation from the ground up. The under 20s this year the under 16s and our minors have given us very respectful performances this year and play to a plan and play as a team. They have held their own with stronger counties and have shown commitment and a desire to win.
A lot of soul searching needs to be done before such valuable resources and sponsorship are thrown to the wind and we end up with nothing to show for it only results like today. Where has it all gone wrong? Club division's and personality conflicts within the team? Poor management strategies. ? Too many players not up to county football standard ? Missing important club players who won't commit? What do other posters feel as I as one supporter feel totally frustrated at the present performances.

Casey and his management team have transformed the hurlers in under a year. Job is not done but definitely going in the right direction.

Disappointing couple of weeks for the footballers. Outside promotion, its been a disappointing year on the football front from st pats exit in the leinster club championship to the u20s exit to louth, the minors not showing much and now the seniors capulating in the tailteann cup. It is hard to see us staying in division 3 but alot can change in the next nine months. Hopefully some new talent will appear in the county club championship. Optimism is a necessity for being a wicklow supporter; i learned that over the lsst 30 years.

I too am following Wicklow for over 50 yrs and that old feeling of de- ja vous that I had driving home from Aughrim last week was sickening. The same old story - different year , different players. I could literally write a book on what might have been or what should have been. The more things change, the more they stay the same. I know I will be attacked here for my pessimism but I have seen this so many, many times over the years. I have blamed everyone from officials, refs, management with wrong selections and substitutions, players doing stupid things in the heat of the moment, county boards- or not doing what needed doing - the whole shooting gallery and still it keeps happening. I just don't know what needs to change or if we as a county, just breed players of a lower standard than that required. I don't believe that for a minute. But, something is wrong. . Better football brains than mine have failed to produce answers to this conundrum. I, perhaps naively, think that both our u20s and u17 teams this year are a lot better than their final positions would put them in the Leinster pecking order. If this is so, what went wrong for them ? Is anybody trying to analyse these campaigns to figure it out ? Anyway, at this stage and my age, I don't think I will ever get to see us even appear in a Leinster Senior final. Sad, but true.
