I hear your frustration. It was the same when I was playing. Getting notice a week in advance (if you were lucky) of when you were playing. I know some of our lads are going away for 4 weeks from middle of June and missing 4 games. Meanhwhile they have been flat out for months and playing nothing. I always liked the idea of the split season but starting the league so late and not leaving gap weeks is a mistake in itself. A bad fortnight of weather and there'll be serious congestion. We always had back weeks. As for the spring league, it used to be smaller groups and was a better competition. Can't understand the thinking behind the groups of 6. Our seconds are in a group where only 2 of the 9 games have not been conceded by someone. That says enough in itself about how these competitions should not be structured.

I would disagree that it's a good draw on paper. Based on league form we have drawn the highest ranked 2nd seeded team and they will fancy their odds against us in a neutral venue. We should be making it out of the group easily but topping the group and getting a home quarter final will give us a huge advantage in the quarter final

The county board and CCCCCCCCC or however many C's are in it can repair the situation somewhat if they release the first 6 rounds dates and times now when they release the first round. It will give lads some clarity for holidays and the summer months. It would be a killer if lads actually got to plan and enjoy their summer?!?! I include management teams and refs in this, I think everybody would appreciate some clarity with the time and energy put into club football.

I notice they have released the first round but yes that would surely be beneficial. The however many C's as you call them have never been ones for clarity. Don't expect a change now.

Seeing the fixtures on paper today, I'd fancy Sligo to go well. Antrim should be a game where the group winners are decided. But being at 3pm on Saturday against Wexford will lead to small crowd in Markievicz one would imagine.

As we guessed, backlogs in spring league mean no break now pretty much. Only round 1 has times fixed. Div 1, 2, 3, and 4 games each weekend as well as hurling. Another slap to the dual player and advantage to the bigger clubs. Why are we the only county in the country where leagues haven't begun so we could try to split these? A cod. CCC should hang their heads. Who is on it? Bumblebee123 (Sligo) - Posts: 10 - 08/05/2024 19:19:53 2543728 Link 0 |

Our Senior team are back out on Saturday. We are on an upward trajectory and we must keep it that way. It will be difficult to scale the heights of our last game but a good solid 70+ minutes should see us win. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1682 - 09/05/2024 12:14:54 2543814 Link 0 |
The team that's named today might actually be the team to start.. Lovely conditions for a game. We need to top our group, so that starts today, no room for error. Nice to see Lavin and Deignan back in the panel. Dylan Walsh is injured and won't be playing any Tailteann game but I suppose all he got this year was a subs jersey.. Best of luck eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1682 - 11/05/2024 11:46:23 2544041 Link 0 |
Good win and a really entertaining game. Should have won by 10 + points but everytime we threatened to pull away we gave them a goal . They actually looked dead and buried in the first half until we made a defensive blunder that they capitalised on with a goal. Umpires gave them 2 dubious points also. Having said that if they had palmed in a goal in the second half instead of a point and had the effort that smashed the crossbar gone in it could have been a lot different. We put up a huge score with MC Loughlin in particular outstanding. 2-16 equally was a massive score to concede. We introduced 4 subs, the first 3 added nothing to the performance and actually may have weakened us. The 4th sub wasn't on long enough. Gordon got a great goal from a difficult angle and a brilliant piece of thinking and sublime pass by Murphy put MC Loughlin in for his goal. Small crowd in attendance, but everyone left happy, well the Sligo supporters did anyway. eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1682 - 12/05/2024 08:50:50 2544189 Link 0 |
Good win, McLoughlin very good. Small crowd was a pity. Cian Lally also had a massive game. Surprised he was taken off but must have emptied the tank. Hup Sligo.

Couldn't agree more. McLoughlin has really grown game by game. Other players getting focus from opposition has allowed him to come to the fore. I'd agree that the scoreline almost flattered Wexford a bit but I think we still give up a bit too much when we're coming out with the ball. Though it's a game we might have thrown away 12 months ago. Tipperary weren't pushed away as easily as I thought and though Sligo have moved past them, you can be sure it won't be easy down there next Saturday.

A good solid performance on Saturday. Should have won by more and would be concerned a little on how much we conceded particularly on turnovers. We should be expecting to come out with maximum points and give ourselves a home QF. If we don't make at least a semi final then this Tailteann cup will have been a disappointment but having said that there's nothing to suggest yet that we won't so lets keep the optimism. McLoughlin was a joy to watch Saturday and Murphy's game management skills also were on point. Sligoman1234 (Sligo) - Posts: 364 - 13/05/2024 10:11:52 2544421 Link 0 |
With the couple of absentees we have currently, it feels like our bench isn't as strong as it could be. I'm wondering who is not making the gameday 26 that could be?

I would like to tsee Alan Reilly back in again with the county setup. He has probably played 4 or 5 games with Curry since he left the panel.. All he needed was a run of games to get his fitness level and confidence up. Playing with Curry albeit in a weak competition should have helped. Other than that I don't know of anyone else. They Mgt are not going to bring in someone completely new at this time of the year.

The minors finished the Connacht campaign strongly with a very brave 2nd half against highly fancied Mayo team who played their full team. Down 1-6 to 0-2 pts we fought back bravely after handing them the goal. Some of the frees scored by Aaron Healy were extroadinary. He got a clutch one against Leitrim too. In the old days most Sligo teams would have buckled but not nowadays. 1-12 to 11 final score but we had chances 2nd half to be a lot closer. No team ran Mayo as close. I really like the look of the spine of this team, Noah Phillips, Alexander Lille, Nicholson and McDonagh have a lot of potential. They are raw and need to develop but showed serious leadership throughout the campaign. Credit to Stephen Henry on the job he is doing. The improvement from when I seen them last year to now is very impressive. Hopefully we will learn from the Mayo game too because I don't think we can carry 2 freetakers from play and playing McDonagh inside didn't work for me but I understand why they tried it. Some of the subs are better than the starters too which showed with the strong 2nd half. Hopefully we take the B All Ireland seriously. I agree on Reilly. He carries a threat all the time, albeit frustrating at times in black and white. That bench lacks a scoring threat though I think Reilly would likely start for us if he was in there. As Sligonian mentions, there is a real lack of scoring forwards coming through. For so long, it seemed that's all we had.
