Now u r talking. I spoke about this a few weeks back. They came in to Galway a few years back and it help clear up the nonsense that was going on there. For the benefit of Donegal GAA moving forward, this is what is needed.

How many years did you give playing for the county?

So what if he played soccer for a season. Did he break his contract with Donegal?

Jason Sherlock went off to play for Shamrock Rovers for a year. Jack McCaffrey and Paul Mannion have taken time out recently. Oisin Mullen is away to play AFL.

It's called having a life.

There is three sides to every story, your side , my side and the thruth somewhere in the middle. Problem with this story is we the fans have no side only rumours. Time for both sides to come clean with a statement for the ordinary fans.

Agreed. Bit harsh on DV there. Plenty of players have temporarily opted out over the years for various reasons - Cassidy, McFadden, McLoone, MacNiallais, McHugh etc.

Exactly. The Academy come out saying the haven't got the support of the Board. What does that mean? The Board then come out with a big long statement basically saying nothing. This leaves the ordinary supporter completely in the dark. Some of us are not even hearing the rumours from either side that are being talked about. This has all the hallmarks of a personality dispute with very little substance at the end of the day.

Devenney had no business going on the radio talking about this issue as he knows about as much as the rest of us which is nothing. We all know that Lacey jacked, issued a statement and then the rest the coaches followed and that the county board issued a statement too.
The big problem that we can all agree is that we aren't getting the whole story from both sides, so we don't actually know who is at fault and to what degree. The biggest problem now is the ***** stirrers and rumour mongering from both sides which is making this whole thing a hundred times worse.... The longer this goes on without the actual truth coming out, the harder it's going to be to heal the rift. Otherwise Donegal GAA is done.

Depends on what you like to listen to. I think Devenny's good value because he doesn't take himself too seriously.

I agree, he is very good on the 'DL debate' on Highland radio on Monday evenings, he has some good guests on too,
We could do with Devenny in the forward line these days, he was a great man to get a score.

One of the most prolific forwards we have ever produced.

His county final record tally from '99 still hasn't been beaten. He just seemed to go out and play with abandonment which made him a journey to watch.

Yeah I expected Kieran Tobin to take a wing back role, like permanently, he is a class player.

The question then is what is our strongest back six?

2. Mark Curran
3. Brendan McCole
4. Caolan Ward
5. Eoghan Ban Gallagher
6. Stephen McMenamin
7. Jack McKelvey

Or

2. Eoghan Ban Gallagher

4. Stephen McMenamin
5. Caolan McColgan
6. Jack McKelvey
7. Kieran Tobin

Or do we mix Ryan McHugh and Peadar Mogan in there too?

Why has he not mentioned the Academy situation on his show on Monday nites I wonder? It is being talked about by national media but very little in certain local media outlets.

When Devenney was in full flight there weren't many better forwards to watch in the game. The blanket defence era didn't suit him and he openly admitted that himself. But not many corner backs in the country would have envied the task of marking him one-on-one. I think he's among the top scorers in the history of the Compromise Rules too (he definitely was top at one point).

In an era of bland, cliché driven answers Devenney is a breath of fresh air. Right or wrong he says what he's thinking. If there was a bit more of that type of plain speaking we might be in a better position vis-a-vis the Academy.

Devenney hosts a show in your county every week and not once has there been a conversation on the academy? Is that not a bit mad? Almost laughable considering it's the main GAA show for the county? He has been asked not to talk about it and towed the line.

He spoke about it on his own show Monday night just past. Perhaps give it a listen.

I only got to hear a bit of his show last Monday night when he was discussing the Armagh match with Aaron Kernan.
But you're right, it's the biggest topic of conversation in Donegal GAA circles at the moment, even with the senior team in very real danger of being relegated from Division One, which is saying something.

I'd say DV would speak about it, that was if he had enough material to fill a segment. It just seems that no one will talk at any length due to the lack of facts out there. Plenty will give the 2 or 3 liner that it's a terrible situation which needs to be sorted out. I'd say at the beginning, people didn't want to say anything; in case it would cause division when talks were ongoing. However, now it certainly appears that ship has sailed.

I personally find it incredible that there is no one in the county capable of getting the parties to the table. Karl never struck me as being egotistical or a divisive character, and he would have dealt with his fair share County Board Officials over the years. I'm sure he sought advice from people close to him who were previously office holders about the best course of action.

As for a replacement, who in their right mind who put themselves into that, a complete no win situation.
