I thought he stepped down after Down were caught badly breaking the covid rules. I dont think any of the players would know much less care. We were unlucky in the league match earlier in the year so hopefully that can give the players a bit of belief

Think its over ambitious in my opinion but maybe it'll get over the line. Wouldn't want to leave the club with lots of debt

Another second half collapse yesterday. After a really good first half we just dont show up after half time. We could of scored two more goals but down could of gotten five. Over ambitious?? fair play to them for trying it, if you have the right lads on board with plenty of fundraising and funding there is no reason this wont happen! you will never know unless you try!!!

Better performance overall, benefited from some chaos in the first half, some individual excellence too but poor second half, ran out of options and drive far too early. Mindset and game plan just wasn't there. Will probably be the end of the road for a few lads. Hard to know where we go from here. Nothing wrong with a bit of ambition. Strategically it makes a heck of a lot of sense to grow a community sports hub around your GAA club, if you can afford it. They clearly have some big local money involved and are confident the rest can be raised via fundraising. Always build while you can, and always build big if you can. There will be no danger of that... lots of banks have been burned with GAA lending and many a club had to get bailed out by Croke Park. The days of lending piles of money to a GAA club are gone. Fair play if they manage to build it, it will surely cost a couple of million if not more.

Fixtures for second half of the League are out. Looks like it's being played at lightning speed. Took 50 days to play the first 5/6 rounds, and now the second 5/6 rounds will be played in under 2 weeks between 18th June and 1st July. In Group 1 Dromard and Killoe will have 4 league games in a row over 12 and 10 days respectively because of where their bye sits. Clearly rushing to get ACFL and Leader Cup done before Championship starts on 28th July which means Leader Cup semi-finals will probably be on w/e of 8th July with final on 16th, and then 2 week break to Championship. It is beyond belief how they are treating both club and county players with this format. Club players starved of games from when they went back training in February to now. 4 competitive games in 4/5 months and now 4 in 2 weeks. Meanwhile County players come back and 6 days later they have 4 competitive games in 2 weeks. Group 1 in Division 1 has also a lot at stake with Colmcille on 0 points and the bottom of that group is relegated to Division 2. its crazy lads.. in my own club, no game for 2 weeks now 6 in 3 weeks, its laughable! every year they seem to make a balls of it! clubs are better off not getting to a league final because if you do your playing it a week before championship!

agree with everyone all this is crazy. for years we complained that the league went on to xmas after championship and that it was a good idea to finish it before champinship but now with this "split season" nonsense we have the games crammed together like this to do it. their are too many teams in division 1 and senior championship end off and that needs to change. clubs will have a hissy fit if their is a suggestion to drop them down to division 2 or 3 so what do we do??!! slasher9 (Longford) - Posts: 233 - 15/06/2023 11:11:55 2486607 Link 0 |

A big difference between having 1 group of 5 with Killoe, Abbey, Clonguish, Dromard and Colmcille with bottom relegated to the second group of Slashers, Mullinalachta, Granard, Mostrim, Connollys and Carrickedmond who have an extra team. I think it is more a reflection that this year the groups are quite clearly not evenly split. If Colmcille end up in division 2 mainly due to the fact they have key county players it is not a fair system.

If they get relegated it's because they are not good enough. There are enough games with county players for them to survive so it's no excuse. Slashers, Granard, Dromard, Killoe, Rathcline and Abbeylara have all had the same number or more county players on the named 26
