Replying To Tarismelting22:  "Stupid comment - Joes have done more than hold their own in junior my own club had many a battle with them and we had afew seniors playing against them. Joes also had a very decent league.

I dont think there should be any B team in Junior A championship should be just first and the B teams have their own competition. The team the likes of a ronans or joes would play aginast in the first round of the championship to the last round of the championship is a much different team with lads getting pulled into the first team.

Joes wouldnt have been in a relegation battle the last number of years as they have got out of their group."
There is 6 first teams in the Junior Championship this year. Add in 2 that would have to go up to Intermediate to replace Brigids B and Pearses B and you'd be left with 4.

Predictions for Round 2 of the Roscommon Club Championships:

Senior Championship:
Tulsk v Castlerea - Tulsk should edge this but expect a very tight game
Ros Gaels v Oran - Roscommon Gaels by 2/3 points. Should be a great game with Oran needing a win
St. Brigits v St. Faithleachs - Should be a comfortable home win for the holders in Kiltoom
Western Gaels v Glaveys - Draw. Expect a tight game, both teams quite defensive as neither can afford to lose
Padraig Pearses v St. Dominics - Pearses by 7/8. Should have too much for the Doms
Clan na Gael v Boyle - Draw a possibility here. Boyle will look for a big performance after a lucky escape last time out.

Intermediate Championship:
Shannon Gaels v Pearses B - Shannon Gaels should have the edge here
Elphin v Kilbride - Comfortable win for Elphin.
Eir Og v Creggs - Eir Og by 2 points, should be a cracking game
St. Croans v Fuerty - 2 good sides, draw could be on the cards or Fuerty by 1/2 points
Strokestown v Kilmore - Local derby but Strokestown by 5/6
Brigits B v Michaels - Michales by 2/3 points

What expect to happen this weekend but expectations doesn't always fall into place especially in the group stage.

Senior Championship:

Tulsk v Castlerea - Tulsk on the verge of retaining Senior status for the 5th year and should win here by 2 or 3 points.

Ros Gaels v Oran - Roscommon Gaels looked very much like a top 5 club team in the county in the last round and Oran have regressed on their form of the last few years. Roscommon Gaels by 4 or 5 points.

St. Brigits v St. Faithleachs - Should be another straight forward win for Brigids. Faithleachs still without Ciarian Murtagh who is not expected back until the end of the month. Brigids by 8

Western Gaels v Glaveys - Hard game to call but Glaveys although getting well beat them getting a championship game under their belt and Western Gaels coming in without a game could be enough for Glaveys to edge this contest by a point

Padraig Pearses v St. Dominics - Doms will come with another system of play that will make them difficult to score against and are boosted by the return of their best forward Daire Keenan. Pearses will surely improve on their 50% strike rate from round one with Paul Carey,Eoin Colleran back. Conor Daly also returns for this game. Pearses by 4 points.

Clan na Gael v Boyle - Clann probably still hurting from the manner of the defeat to Boyle in the knock out stage last year and will be looking for a small measure of revenge here and with no Cian McKeon,Daire Cregg for Boyle they should be taking advantage. Clann by 1

Intermediate Championship:

Shannon Gaels v Pearses B - Going by the opening round result anything but a Shannon Gaels win will be a surprise
Elphin v Kilbride - Elphin county title contender v Kilbride hoping to avoid relegation. Elphin to win
Eir Og v Creggs - Interesting game, Eire Og should win after a decent battle
St. Croans v Fuerty - Fuerty I'd fancy to win here after they were close to gaining at least a draw v Eire Og the last day
Strokestown v Kilmore - Another interesting game, Kilmore improving while Strokestown off of the mark with 8 point win at the weekend they should make it two from two here
Brigits B v St Michael's- Hard game to game a possible draw

Junior A

I expect wins for Aidans,Ballinameen,Clann B,Kilglass Gaels,Boyle,St Barrys.

Roscommon Gaels v Oran - Oran badly need a win here but Gaels by 4
Brigids v Faithleachs - No surprises here at all, Brigids with plenty to spare

Pearses v Dominics - Dominics will put it up to them for 40/45 minutes but Pearses to pull away in the end
Clann v Boyle - Clann to take advantage of the losses of Cregg and McKeon, 2 point win

Intermediate Championship:
Shannon Gaels v Pearses B - Shannon Gaels with a fairly decent margin
Elphin v Kilbride - Should be an easy win for Elphin

Strokestown v Kilmore - Strokestown by 7
Brigids B v Michaels - Michaels by 3

Junior Championship:
Ronans v Aidans - Ronans badly need a win here but can't see past Aidans
Western Gaels vs Barrys - You would have to fancy Barrys to push on after their opening round win
Josephs vs Ballinameen - Ballinameen to win by 4
Ros Gaels B vs Clann B - Clann B to win well here
Tulsk B vs Kilglass - Kilglass to get a badly needed win on the board
Boyle B vs Strokestown B - Winner of this is in a great position, Strokestown B by 2

Both gone as far as I am aware. McKeon won't play any part for Boyle this year, I think Cregg is still out due to the 12 week rule (has to be 12 weeks before he can play with Boyle from when he registered with Donegal Boston). I believe Ciarain Murtagh is in the same both with St. Faithleachs - both may be able to play the last game depending on when they switched over

Looked it up Murtagh is definetly eligible if he is home, so is McKeon but he isn't coming back is he? Cregg not eligible for another few weeks

I think he's gone for another few months. Would like to see him back, great footballer and easily one of the best in the county imo. Would be a serious addition for Boyle if so.

Both of them and Ciarian Murtagh won their finals with Chicago and Boston last Sunday, this weekend they are in San Francisco in the state championship. Murtagh,McKeon are currently eligible to play for Boyle,Faithleachs. Cregg the end of August. The rule is 60 days from when you transferred now.

Sounds like McKeon won't be part of the County squad next year?
Any teams left on No points after this weekends fixtures will be under some pressure in R3.
Hopefully Oran won't be one of them.

To update Murtagh is back home and is expected to feature for Faithleachs this weekend.

Took in a few games over the weekend - Some good quality, some not so good.

Ros Gaels v Oran - A hard game to watch at times, Roscommon Gaels seemed a bit defensive at times. Some harsh calls from the referee meant Gaels had 12 men for a period, Oran couldn't push on and find a winner. Oran seem to have gona back in the last year , can't see them going too far in the Championship. Group on a knife edge now.

Tulsk v Castlerea - Was not at this game but as expected a tight affair. Castlerea will be delighted with the win and will fancy a free shot at Oran to get out of the group. Tulsk & Ros Gaels will be a defensive affair I imagine with both sides playing on the side of caution.

St. Faithleachs v Brigits - Brigits showed their quality in the 1st half, 8/9 points from play and 3/4 of these around the 45m mark (albeit with a breeze). Moved the ball very well. Faithleachs will rue missed chances - wides at key times. Had a break through on goal with 2 mins left and 2 points down, defender got a nice touch to deny a certain goal. Little reality check for Brigits but deserving of the win.

Western Gaels v Glaveys - Western gaels left themselves too much to do. Relying on Hestor for scores - could be an issue for them in the next 2 games. Glaveys almost certaintly into at least a 3rd play play off with that win.

St. Dominics v Pearses - Dominics look destined for the relegation battle as they lost back to back games with Clann left to play. Pearses moving well - look a well set up team and could be a danger to Brigits down the line.

Boyle v Clann - Watched via Ross GAA TV. Clann comfortable throughout - Boyle lacking prolific forwards (McKeon and Cregg huge losses). Donie unlucky with the penalty but Clann looking to go 3 from 3 in the last game. Will be hard beaten by any quarter final team.

It was Enda who missed the Penalty not Donie, Was never a penalty anyway was a shocking call by the ref. McKeon and Cregg big losses as was Ultan for Clann.

Excellent synopsis
Was at Pearse's and St Brigids games
Pearse's were comfortable as were we on Saturday

Definitely agree it's a wake up call. We were in control of the game and Faithleachs goal was fortunate and made the scoreline closer than it should have been. Paul mcgrath, Brian stack, Shane cunnane, Conor hand and Bobby nugent were excellent. Good to see Eddie nolan back to.

Faithleachs will win against Western Gaels next week and I think they will beat Glaveys too. Tricky team to get in a quarter final

Agreed - I think Pearses are the only real threat to Brigits this year. Clan moving well too so wouldn't rule them out.

Fully agree on Brigit's - thought their forwards were excellent and the scoring and movement was top notch. Fallon around the middle was very impressive also - great player. Thought Faithleachs did well to get back into the game but dont think Brigits were ever in real danger of losing the game either - Cunningham wont be happy with losing the 2nd half 1-6 to 7points knowing the high standards he sets. Could spell trouble for Western Gaels in 2 weeks if they have a point to prove - Eddie Nolan likely back in the starting 15 for that game also which only strengthens the county champions.

Took in three games at the weekend.

Roscommon Gaels v Oran. Had the potential to be a good game yet that didn't happen and I doubt I'll see a worse game this year in a contest the longer it went on the less both teams had much interest of playing football. Pulling and dragging contest and I felt sorry for the officials trying to restore some order. Oran will be left with the most regrets with the chances they missed and were up against 13 man Gaels team at times during the match. Roscommon Gaels with the Carthys,Oates,Manus etc to return should be looking to reach the last 4 again at least. Oran a Quarter final exit at best it seems.

Clann v Boyle. Clann set the platform down for this win in the 1st half, a nice mix of youth and experience in their ranks and should be especially encouraged with how well the lads on their senior debut season are more than holding their own. Former county U20 player David McManus stood out in this match, worked hard for his team in the middle sector and also kicked 0-5 from play. Boyle will need each and every one of their players missing back to mount a title challenge (E Kerins, L Glennon, C Flanagan,C McKeon,D Cregg) Had Enda Smith scored that penalty late on the two point margin would have flattered Boyle.

Shannon Gaels v Pearses B. No score in the match for 13 minutes then Shannon Gaels scored 7 points in a row all from play in the next 17 minutes. Pearses got their only score of the half in added time. 2nd half just a matter of the margin of victory for S Gaels and they won pulling up by 13. Matthew Burke impressive at 11 with 1-6. Cian Harmon a strong showing in midfield with 1-2. Teens Nikita Berzins,Lee Taylor also showed well and both are sure to feature for Roscommon U20s next year. As for Pearses plenty of good footballers on their team but the lack of scorers is sticking out like a sore thumb.

State of play in the senior championship

Into the knockout stages already Brigids,Clann,R Gaels,Boyle,Pearses and will likely be joined by Oran,Faithleachs,Castlerea,Glaveys and North Roscommon.

Relegation play off. Dominics are in it regardless of round 3 result. Western Gaels,Tulsk the likely teams to be with them and won't be easy to pick which one of those three will fall through the trap door.

How things stand in the Intermediate championship

Eire Og,Shannon Gaels,Strokestown,Elphin,Fuerty,Creggs are all into the knock out stages and likely joined by Kilmore,Creggs,Brigids B. Kilbride v Pearses game could go either way and the loser will do well to stay up.

Confirmed for the relegation play off so far is St Croans yet should have enough to stay up. Michaels will likely there also and hoping not to fall back to Junior A again after years of trying to get back to the intermediate.

Junior A

St. Aidans,Clan na nGael,Strokestown,Boyle,Kilglass Gaels,Ballinameen,St Barrys,Western Gaels. Meanwhile Tulsk are heading for relegation.

I wonder about the county team next year. What players will be back and who'll go travelling. I heard Eoin McCormack may be travelling next year. He'd be a big loss. I wonder will Cian McKeon be back. He was missed this year. It would be great to see Roscommon having a full panel next year. It'll be an open championship and Roscommon have plenty of good players. Martin McHugh of Donegal commented recently about all the talented footballers in Roscommon. We could give it a real go with a full hand to pick from. We need to break the duck in Croke park. It'll also be six years next year since our last Connacht title. It looks certain Davy will be on the sideline next year. His record over the past two years is not nearly good enough (3 wins out of 13 competitive matches this year.) but we'll have to get on with because the County Board won't be making a change there it seems.

Any movement in our management set up, we surely need to add a coach or two in with Davy. Who will get the minor job? Will the u20 management stay on?

Lar Wall is well in the running for the Westhmeath vacancy so probably so movement there. We need to add a proper coach and someone who's not afraid to stand up to Davy [hopefully he doesn't stay]
