Mayo, Dublin, Donegal, Armagh. Not much handy about that run. All immaterial now anyway as they blew the final.

Armagh were good enough to beat us and came out on top of all challengers for the AI, so champions they are, and unfortunately we have to live with it, grit the teeth and move on. Yes, some of our marquee men didn't step up and we completely fell into their tactical trap and allowed them to play the game on their terms. I've no doubt that our management of last year allowed themselves to get 'frozen on the sideline' - where you're slow to see the obvious change needed, where you're sticking to your guns tactically and positionally - no matter what the evidence from the field is telling you - and also that we get caught in a classic 'paralysis by analysis' - where mgmt and mentors start to overthink a situation to the point of inaction - and by the time you eventually come to decision, the damage is done. We prioritised avoiding risk and mistakes, instead of going all out to seize the opportunity. Like top players who only seek to get better year on year, mgmt have to be honest with themselves about their in-game mgmt, an and become better decision makers and tacticians in the white heat of the biggest games. Dave Morris and Mickey Graham will help this situation immensely if allowed the scope to do so, and I've no doubt they will be - I'd hope that's partly why they have them there. Hoping for big times ahead for us. Sam is very much attainable, lads. We go again.

Also as they won completely forgotten that armaghs big guns malfunctioning on the day. O'Neill was shut down, turbitt didn't last far past half time. Grugan was quite before going off injured. They missed some shocking chances too It was a strange game in that big guns on both sides failed to fire Then it was like of Darcy for us and conaty for them had the games of their lives jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1308 - 13/01/2025 16:47:01 2585747 Link 0 |
The best team won the All Ireland. It's time to get over it. Any team that wins an All Ireland is a damn good team. It's disgraceful trying to pick the worst team to win the All Ireland eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 1996 - 13/01/2025 20:35:13 2585776 Link 1 |
The main players each team was given extra attention and more or less marked out of the game. Darcy and Conaty enjoyed more time and space on the ball to get the scores they did.

A stronger and much improved performance from St Jarlaths yesterday from the game versus the amalgamated Leitrim schools at the Dome. The scoreboard didn't reflect their dominant display. You'd wonder how some of the players didn't make recent Galway minor teams, Quinn in goals, Iarla Costello at 8 and Rory Igoe not getting game time despite been on the panel last year. Killian Joyce at 13 continues to impress with a massive workmate and a beautiful left foot boot, young Dempsey from Cortoon at 10 is a serious talent and Galway GAA need to mind him as Connacht rugby may also have an interest. Finally player of the match for me was Cian Raftery at 6, a player that brings so much effort, bravery and endeavour. GDL (Galway) - Posts: 776 - 14/01/2025 12:59:31 2585840 Link 1 |
I'd disagree with " dominant" .. Another minute or so and they were out.. A terrible second half collapse. Claregalways second half scoring spree just fell short.. Jarlaths do have some very good individuals but as a team they just are not gelling... I'd be amazed if they win Connacht , one connacht title in 13 years shows that tradition counts for absolutely nothing anymore! Belclare7 (Galway) - Posts: 151 - 14/01/2025 16:22:42 2585895 Link 0 |
We'll have to agree to disagree, but for a very bizarre penalty call, and a hit and hope ball for the second goal, Jarlath's were by far the better side for me. They were also missing Mannion at fullback (man of the match in the county minor final in 2023) and any team that can leave Ross Mitchell and Conor Bodkin in the subs has a fair bit of talent. Claregalway unfortunately continue with poor football and surely will reflect on that, they've wasted so much talent from feile and minor winning teams since they joined the College competition.

As I stated above no doubting the individual talent , but for all that the second half was a collapse.. Maybe the sideline need to look at themselves.. They seem to be struggling with consistency.. Colaiste bhaile chláir will be disappointed I'm sure after reaching the final last year, but they are still a proud school who continue to improve their overall GAA standards. Colmans beating Gerards 1 13 to 1 10 today puts them as my favourite now.. They played some fantastic football in terrible conditions.
