Replying To togoutlads:  "When I first saw the draw my immediate reaction was that we're goosed, not a chance. But when you think about what Mayo did v Dublin, albeit not in Croke Park, you'd have to have some hope. There are obviously critical match ups we'll have to somehow win, where we need to try and 'hammer the hammer'.
The great Fenton is the fulcrum of everything good the Dubs do, but look at the job Donnchadh McHugh did on him. It's doable. This machine can be marshalled. It is actually possible! The next hammer to hammer, if it's at all possible, is Con O'Callaghan. Again, you have to study the Mayo template here - David McBrien did a great job on him. I'd be hoping we'll give good match ups and battles with Basquel and Paddy Small. I'd be concerned about CHB and trying to marshall Cormac Costello, who's on fire these days. Niall Scully and even Ciarán Kilkenny are markable, but we'll need to be able to go toe to toe and field with Kilkenny, who has springs in his heels. Scully, Small and Costello can cross, overlap and shoot from very long range, so that source of scores for them will take monstrous workrate to stop. McCaffrey and Mannion will come in with the pace injection, so we'll need gazelles ready to counter that!
At the other end, we have to do something different to upset this super slick defensive machine they have and I think it's a case of getting ball clean over Howard, J Small and Bugler and raining in some early ball on that full back line and keeper. Ryan O'Donoghue is no giant and he was able to catch ball over Mick Fitzsimons. Yes, Fitzsimons is headed for legendary status but who has really tested him recently with a proper aerial bombardment? (Easier said than done, I know, but we can surely leather the damn ball in from time to time onto our key target men). Murchan, McMahon and Cluxton categorically do not like high ball going in on top of them. Yes, they'll counter some of it but not all of it. As good as any team is, they will not win every high ball in. We have to take some risks going forward and try this because if we go into predictable, ponderous, lateral build up stuff, they are simply better at it and will beat us. So let's not play that game for too long. What they don't like is chaos, a rabid dog fight, with unpredictable build up, challenging and dangerous ball going in on our bigger men. They're only partly set up for that. Dub lads I know, know this themselves. Let's test it."
Id agree with alot of that but with this being our 3rd week on the trot, amount of injuries and niggles we have it will hard beat the dubs going down the home straight with their conditioning levels

My prediction would be 2 goals for Galway - both Comer and Sean Kelly get goals. Sean Kelly is lethal when he gets going.

We can do this."
Now that gave me a good laugh gakway a much better team then mayo ha living in cloud 9 dubs by 10+

Absolutely no one should be taking that Mayo game seriously.
Dublin were down the country for the day and the only min in the game they really took serious was the last play when Kilkenny decided no way am I losing to this crowd.
Dublin were in 3rd gear...
They'll be ready for us Saturday

Replying To suckvalleypaddy:  "Lads lighten up about the Armagh drawn game, it's history. Just like the crossbar in Salthill. Delighted to have a free shot at the mighty Dubs.
And get off the Mayo thing it's pathetic. They are a great team.
Really looking forward to the big game. Hope PJ gives Tomo a start as he must really want a shot at the big stage.
Shane might be a good sub if he is fit. Damo for last 25 min. No pressure on us. Gaillimh Abu."
The delusion is strong with this one. Where do I start. Give Tomo a start - he has done absolutely nothing the last few years to warrant his place in the panel, nevermind the starting 15. Shane has been terrible since the AI with the exception of about two games recently. And on Damo, he has in fairness never let Galway down but throwing him on against the Dubs half injured in Croke Park - what do we expect. As for the free shot & no pressure rubbish - we are supposed to be have a proud footballing history- Joyce has now been in there for 5 years, we were in an AI two years ago but now its just about having a crack and sure if we lose, so be it? Absolutely pathetic stuff.

Is John Daly injured or jsut fallen down pecking order? Will Shane be fit if not who comes in straight swap with Comer. Finnerty whilst playing well to be fair is very heavily strapped. S kelly does not look fit not his usual rampaging self seemed to be hobbling against Monaghan. Conroy is a Galway legend fine wine has gotten better with age and even since that inj double leg break v kerry however I would worry about his engine in Croker difference will be starkling open croke park on a summers day against the dubs fenton etc. Is O conghaile ahead of culahne and rest of forwards as our subs. I still not keen on darcy WF and would have more athletic heaney or hernon in for him.

Slightly off the current topic, but a serious question- What on earth has young Culhane done in a Galway jersey to warrant people constantly calling him by a shortened version of his first name, akin to "Ja", "DJ", "Micko" etc??
Am I missing something?

Apart from ALL that, we're in good shape though.

I agree and sure sitter he missed against Armagh has cost us dearly. Is o conghaile ahead of him in pecking order and rightly so IMO. Also appears O curraoin has fallen back but I would have hope for him as 1st year on panel and just out of u20s. Now Culhanes has age on his side I do think and agree that he is seems to be held in very high regard & I am not sure why has he has not shown it.

Surely Irish rail will be putting a special or two on… at present there's now train leaving late enough for the journey home given the 6:15 throw in

Replying To backtooldwall:  "Galway's record versus Dublin in championship is not one to instil confidence but each game is a life in itself and I'd hope this team are the one to start a new chapter. The team have to arrive with their "A" game which has not been seen this year so far. our ball winners in middle Conroy ,Tierney ,Maher must be at their best and Kelly will be essential in this outer defensive organising role he seems to have been assigned to this year. The forwards must test the opposition defence any time they get a one on one situation rather than recycling all the time.I would give Galway a reasonable chance if they achieve these aims and there are no goalmouth or kick out cockup's.Here"s hoping."
How many times have Galway vs Dublin actually met in Championship in the last 30 years they met in 2018 and obviously Dublin beat Galway in the 1974 and 1983 all Ireland finals, but there isn't much recent history between the teams in the championship.

We started that game very well. Comer was causing havoc. His punched goal from Duggan's brilliantly floated ball in. He won the penalty which we missed and also hit the post after causing a bit more chaos. We needed all those to go in to have had any chance in that game. As it was, we had played most of the football in the first half but found ourselves behind at half-time.
Fitness and legs become even more important in Croke Park. The surface is immaculate, the ball moves very quickly on the hard pitch. There's no dodgy bounce to help a defender out. We'll need to be right at it physically to have any chance.
