Replying To tommy k:  "Yes high fielding at midfield is a dying art but the problem with Galway teams for many years now is that the breaking ball is not being picked up either as at least 8 times out of 10 the opposition midfield diamond players gain possession and possession is nine tenths of the law these days especially for teams with any aspirations of winning an AI."
Kerry had a physically slight team last year, yet they were always comfortable, both judging the flight of, and rising for the high ball. It's a huge advantage to have. I can't understand from a Galway perspective, why there is not more emphasis put on the skill. Too many of our players want the ball on a platter - and consider high fielding/fighting for your ball, well "optional". E.g. Finnerty is an opportunist player, good scorer. But he'd be far more potent and dangerous if he improved his aerial skills...

Good win for the Galway U-20's beating Dublin in the final of the John Kerins Cup. Did well to come back from losing their first game against Roscommon to beat Cork, Laois and Dublin.

saw Oran Burke in goals for Corofin Seniors. Made excellent saves, good on kick outs ,good on high ball, made an error that cost a goal but conditions were horrendous..young,tall and definitely one for the future.

Good to hear. Thought he was top class with the U20s in 2019.

He was a good keeper for Galway at underage, however Gleeson is the confirmed number 1, but Conor has a big test next Saturday in the Athletic ground under lights with maybe 15k Armagh fans putting him under pressure for every high ball coming in with O'Neill, Murnin and Turbitt contesting with him in the air. Next Saturday will tell us a lot and if he comes through it will settle a lot of people, me included who still have doubts.

Them lads from yesterday are miles away still, it is essentially a development tournament. There were 6 or 7 of them guys yesterday who played with St Jarlaths last year and are 18 or 19. Kyle Gilmore was there yesterday in the squad and he is still in school, but to answer your query, I believe Gilmore, Egan, Birmingham, MacDonncha, Thompson and O'Conghaile all have the ability to make it at Senior level eventually.

Agree that PJ definitely has Gleeson as his No 1 and Bernie Power as back up. As ive said before Management must see something the majority dont or just sticking it out.
Conor will be under lots of pressure in next two games , because whilst i think there has been improvement he still is prone to howlers in each game, and i dont think his back line are fully confident when he is on ball in open play. The kick outs are at best ok. Depending on lumping long ball out and hoping we field or get break is lottery.
I hope for his sake it goes well , because it has to be tough being the butt of the abuse , because at the end of the day , its not his issue that hes being picked to play and all he can do is play his best . The query is his best better than every other keeper in Galway.
The issue id have if i was any of the potential alternative goalies is why would you bother going in when PJ has his choices made. Its not like they can play in other spots. You are either 1 or 16.
I think Burke had been in with them last year for a while.
Id love to know who exactly they've had in for trials ,l, id hope the development squad will allow a look at the likes of OMalley , Haslam , O Halloran etc .
Too late for this year but indicator for next.

Excellent keeper, I saw him at Intermediate level for Corofin a few years ago.

Salthill have some neck on them. A shared facility would be great for city clubs. The current proposal is a joke and I'm shocked they are trying to get away with it. This will just lead to the already dominant city club become more dominant

St Michaels GAA have responded on their FB page if you want to see the full details of what is going on. I agree 100% with their statement

Having too many players is not something people are going to sympathise with when so many are struggling with numbers

Fabian Galthie looking a lot like Kevin in the stand. Two very astute managers. I must say I like McStay's style of management - considers his changes, and ok's it with Rochie and Liam.. No need for clouds of secrecy.

With the backroom team at their disposal, and Kerry/Dublin slightly off colour, I'm prepared to give them just as good a chance as ourselves of winning AIF this year. I'd give us a slightly better chance if, and it's a big IF, we improved on our fielding/work rate..

They are a bit like Monaco, loads of money but can't make the land. It does bring up the issue for the county board needing to sort out the club situation in and around the city for football in particular. Oranmore/Salthill-Knocknacarra and Claregalway have massive numbers fielding 3 and 4 teams at various age levels. The Michaels solution does appear to have some merit with shared facilities.

Corofin weren't too concerned about the plight of marginalised clubs in their pomp... once the titles kept rolling in - nothing to see...

Their solution seems fair and would benefit all the clubs. Can't imagine Rahoon not being on board with it.
