Kinvara beat Kilnadeema/Leitrim last year FYI. You're doing a lot of looking but arent seeing a lot, it appears. K/L are doing really well this year and good luck to them. Stool Pigeon (Galway) - Posts: 906 - 13/10/2021 11:12:36 2385462 Link 0 |
Kinvara are a one trick pony team aka Conor Whelan and they weren't able to stay Senior. Oranmore-Maree and Ahasragh-Fohenagh who recently won Intermediate and then got promoted to Senior A before getting absolutely hammered in every game and sent flying back down to Senior B. The same thing will happen to Kilconeiron next year but atleast they will get the privilege to play with the big guns in Senior A for a year! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2554 - 13/10/2021 21:29:40 2385588 Link 0 |
Oranmore will be back up in A next year, as sure as night turns to day.

With Clarinbridge and Gort gone up to Senior A this year it actually evens out Senior B fairy well, Liam Mellows would surely be favourites to go up next year.

The logic of this championship would have to baffle you. You put the best 12 teams in one pot .. Senior A .. You put the worst 12 teams in another .. Senior B .. And then you eliminate 6 of the "best teams" before the knockout stages and let 6 of the worst teams into the knockout stages. Surely it's very unfair on teams in Senior A ?? Donaldtrump (Galway) - Posts: 252 - 14/10/2021 18:10:32 2385679 Link 1 |
It's incredibly unfair. You have the likes of Sarsfields who won 2 games in their Senior A group, finishing joint top on points, but third on scoring difference, getting knocked out. Then Portumna who only won 1 game in Senior B, going through. This isn't a dig at Portumna at all, but the ridiculous nature of the system. Sarsfields would have been better off going down to Senior B last year. We're hearing some complaints about proposal B for the All-Ireland football championship, due to the fact that it has only five Division 1 teams going through and two from Division 2. Our Galway hurling system is far worse. The only advantage from being in Senior A is the group winners skip the preliminary quarters. But given the quality of opponent, the decent teams in Senior B have a much greater advantage than the good teams in Senior A. This has to be sorted for next year. This is a fair comment but it's not something that will be an issue after next year

Not much point. They'll be back down the following year when the senior championship is reduced to 16 teams to comply with the Croke Park directive.

Why can't we be like every other county and name manager promptly

Give the new manager a chance to look at players in championship

I'm sure any halfway decent prospective manager knows who is playing well, or otherwise.

True, but it does suggest that there is something massively dysfunctional going on. I dont have a clue what's happening, I expect you dont either, as well as people a lot more intimately connected to the game within the county. The optics of it suggests apathy and inertia which surely is not the case. The senior football manager hasnt been ratified yet either. The majority of Galway fans are doubling down on blaming the county board for everything that is wrong within the county. Cant blame them given the omerta. And what's with this omerta? Due process you say , but hey, it wouldn't take this long to appoint an EU commissioner to Brussels and that requires the consent of 27 countries.

First time ever that 4 Senior B Teams will be in the Quarter Finals of the Senior Club Championship! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2554 - 17/10/2021 14:44:16 2385906 Link 0 |
Unless they get drawn against each other before the final. Only thing that could catch Clarinbridge is been out 3 weeks in a row and after the loughrea game and conditions they played in could take a lot out of them. But then again the experience will stand to them. Tommy larkins craughwell St Thomas's cappataggle Clarinbridge kilnadeema letrim and gort(big come back from Gort). All in the quarter finals. Just waiting on padraig Pearses v kilconieron. Draws are straight after the final game.

A good indicator that the standard of senior hurling in Galway has dropped considerably. No difference between A and B levels anymore. It's all B standard now. And of course, the Galway senior inter-county team reflects that also.
