Didn't seem the sort of lad who pushes himself tracking back tackling etc when I saw him play. Bit like Casey. Also Byrne must be 30 odd now. Jack Cullen was on the panel start of the year. Think he played a part in the challenge game against Tipp back in January. He was supposed to have said his body wouldn't be up to intercounty training last year. Maybe he just doesn't want to do it. Ian Carthy another excellent hurler, and footballer, who doesn't really want to play intercounty. Was on the senior football panel earlier this year I think. Darragh Egan needed the league this year to win over fans and players. Next year the league should be used to blood Kyle Scallan, Cian Molloy, Cian Byrne, AJ Redmond, Richie Lalor, Jack Redmond and Joe Barrett. I don't mean minutes here and there but start these guys. Preparation should aim to see the Chins and the Rory O Connors and the Recks to be 100% fit and niggle free by the round robin. Leinster or bust next year" Think you can add Tucker and Foley to that list. Tucker has the frame for senior intercounty and played well every game as an impact sub. Does anyone know why he wasn't a starter? Byrne Dunbar already featured in the League this year and did OK. Who of the u20s will still be u20 next year? No disrespect, but the team went to Kilkenny and produced a stirring victory when their backs were to the wall. I can't figure out what bit of a golden opportunity to make a possible All-Ireland semi and final the Wexford support decided wasn't worth 1.5 hours drive. We could have had Kilkenny for a place in an All-Ireland final, support is worth a few points no matter what anybody tells you. It might have been worth a penalty and a black card at a critical time in the game. Its up to supporters to get behind the team. After the Kilkenny win, I don't see how that didn't energise the Wexford support. The players had done their part with their gutsy win, the supporters were found wanting when the need was greatest. The u20s are a good side. If I was in Daire Egan's job, I'd be giving 4-5 of them game time all through the Walsh Cup and league next year. From the u20s, I think at least half of the team have a good chance of making it. The like of Joe Barrett, Richie Lawlor, AJ etc are good hurlers but needs to fill out and put on some serious bulk to make it. I would say the same about Shane McGuckin as he looks light. Even the likes of Rory, Micky Dywer, do get injuries because they are a bit light and end up on the deck a lot. For me, Conor Mc needs to re-invent his game if he is to deliver on his indisputable ability. Against us he ran the full back line around the place in the first half and caused all manner of hassle with Rory in there. Standing for a high ball and wrestling, is a backs game all day long. He needs to reinvent his game and Wexford need to reinvent how they use him. Wexford have a few very good minors coming through too, it is too early to name names as ego's develop quickly but the future is bright for Wexford I think. Wexford will have 3 home games next year, but 2 critical ones v Dublin and Galway away and it could come down to head-to-head. It would need a mentality change from Wexford support too though, people lost their marbles over a Walsh Cup final loss! If new bodies are being given game time, supporters need to be patient. Wexford need to try to have a top team ready once the current Limerick dominance comes to an end. I see another few years before they come back to the pack. I'd say you are right. And regular calls and texts about diet and hurling drills too if I'm not mistaken. Not allowed collective training until December. Be interesting to see how some of these lads look in the Fitzgibbon. It will give us all an idea of their progress in S and C and hurling before the Walsh Cup and League starts. But the silver lining in those clouds has been more games for some of younger hurlers which will stand them and the team in good stead for the years to come. I think that Limerick won Munster without both Lynch and Casey shows how far ahead they are of the chasing pack and an epic Munster final glossed over this reality.
