Meath have also won 6, Down 5 and Cork 4 since Mayo last won 1. But that doesnt change the fact that Mayo have been better than all of these and Galway at football the last 10 years.

Thought Joanne handled it very well, she allowed Pat's rant to go on because Cavanagh was giving as good as he got . She was always in control and wasn't long reeling him in when she wanted to Joanne's strength as a presenter is that she knows her sport, is confident and holds panelist's accountable for their comments. She would never tolerate a player being described as a 'two trick pony' and the panel know that by now. In the past TSG pundits ran the show and competed for the most personally offensive put down of a player or team. That standard of analysis might be OK for the bar stool but not in the studio of our national broadcaster discussing amateur players. Chances are that if O'Rourke is on for the final she will challenge him on his 'eat my hat' comments on Brian Dooher (3 times All Ireland winner, twice as captain and now joint manager of a finalist) and describing Tyrone as a 'team with a bad smell'. . Finding TSG so much more enjoyable post Brolly as all panelist get a chance to contribute. Curlew66 (Roscommon) - Posts: 579 - 30/08/2021 15:48:43 2376471 Link 2 |
It's interesting as I've read O'Sé's reaction. He basically said that Kerry were naive and that Dublin have set out the template to beat teams like Tyrone (does he mean blanket defence, sure everyone does it?) and that is to play around the defence. This is interesting as Dublin have come in for flak for playing around teams and holding possession, even from Kerry supporters on here. It also suggests that if Kerry replace Keane with O'Sé that we might see a more tactically astute Kerry attempting to play around defences rather than run up blind alleys. I don't think either of the modern day zonal blanket defence or the possession retention tactics make for good spectacles and it will be interesting to see the tactics in the final as both teams play similar styles, blanket and quick break.

I was there to see Duggan kick that free- it was unreal.

Agree. It's ridiculous how frees are moved forward. Shaving foam badly needed.

Before he is forgotten about in terms of this game - I want to say a massive 'well done' to Darren McCurry. sam2008 (Tyrone) - Posts: 798 - 30/08/2021 16:18:15 2376482 Link 4 |
Keane's term is up. He's gone. No need for 'knives'.

Tyrone won 5 of their 12 long kick-outs.

O'Sé suggested Kerry are a little 'soft', would Kerry folk agree?

Sorry Cuhullain didn't intend this as a reply to your post.

"Tyrone were great and deserved to win" BUT. I was told that when you make a statement and then say but it negates any thing said before it and suggests you actually do not believe what you just said. That plus Spillane had to shout and keep saying let me finish which Kavanagh did but when Kavanagh was making his point Spillane kept shouting over him again. I would have liked to have heard Kavanagh's point of view but the presenter made sure that this did not happen or was just incompetent. Pretty shoddy if you ask me.

Buckley will not be manager but might be in backroom team although he was got rid of twice.

Not sure soft is the right word but they are nearly all good footballers and don't really engage with their opposite numbers physically. I see lots of defenders shouldering and hopping off their opponens off the ball but the Kerry backs don't seem to do it but tbh I think it's silly anyway and does nt intimidate good forwards. Now I would like one or two to use the well timed shoulder properly but only Morley does that and he was sub. Tomás would nt last long now with the new rules i think. We could do with one hard man at the back but not dirty.

I would agree, definitely need a 'stopper' !

Wouldn't say they're soft at all. Check out the foul on Mc Greary , 23rd minute in the build up to goal, as he lays the ball off he gets a shoulder into the ribs, thought at the time ref would come back to it and give a black card. All teams play that game not just Tyrone.

I had a look at that Derek Duggan free on YouTube it was a class free too, another class kick I have seen to compare to both Morgan's and Duggan's frees, all be it in rugby is a Welsh player Paul Thorburn's penalty vs Scotland I don't know the year it was a fantastic long range score. These sort of long range scores are a pleasure to behold when they come off.

Yeh soft is a little vague, as some pundit said yesterday, Kerry's physicality was more reactive than proactive.

Yes, that Thorburn kick was from well inside his own half. Thanks for the reminder - I can remember Sports Stadium showing numerous replays of it after the game but I would not have recalled the kicker's name on my own. The match was in 1986 according to this Youtube clip: link The commentary is by the wonderful Bill Mclaren, who like Michael O'Muirceartaigh, was always a joy to listen to regardless of how good or bad the actual game was. Ciarán Kilkenny seemed to enjoy it anyway, so he did.
