I don't see interest waning - these hidings have always been the norm in the championship. Every county wants to be relevant and compete for the Sam Maguire. Some counties always have a team competing. Some, it's every 10 or so years and some it's generational. Some never seem to get up there, for different reasons - population, talent, exposure, interest in the game, etc. I'm not sure how the GAA fix this, except for keeping them apart and this hasn't worked in hurling or done anything to improve weaker counties. jimmym (USA) - Posts: 5 - 27/06/2021 19:11:53 2353875 Link 1 |
It shouldn't matter whether they were playing Africa or the UK he should have been with them.

The football championship is dead..yesterday and today saw the ritual hammering of the minnows by the big guns..it's like the mayfly coming out for one day only to be expired at the close of the day. mayotyroneman (Tyrone) - Posts: 1821 - 27/06/2021 21:36:04 2353937 Link 5 |
Have to say I agree with everything you say. I enjoy league football. I switch off for championship now. Boring.

Bet you it wasn't boring the day you beat Kerry last year. There has always been strong teams, the 90's ok we had a lot of different winners but there has always been a top 6 or so with realistic chances of winning Sam, think this year it's just Dublin and Kerry though.

Mayo 3-23 Sligo 0-11, some seriously delusional people in GAA re Provincials. arock (Dublin) - Posts: 4895 - 27/06/2021 22:35:30 2353967 Link 1 |
Agree with most of what you say , except the last bit , Kerry will see off Dublin this year to make it 38 All Ireland titles The game is truly dead -:) superbluedub (Dublin) - Posts: 2837 - 27/06/2021 22:38:11 2353969 Link 0 |
Ulster has half a chance of throwing up a surprise but does it matter. Big push from media to big up kerry but think it will be in vain. Its Dublins again. Sauntered through league in 2nd gear. Football is dead and by looks of things hurling may not be much better.

the hammering have ALWAYS been going on, always, the only difference is now they are on tv, some mighty beatings given out in the 60s\70s/80s/90s, but they got a few lines in the press/independant next day and they were history by tuesday, some winning margins have not changed the coverage has catch up, good boy

It would seem the administrators agree with you. The championship is back yet Laois's victory in the ladies league division 3 is top billing.

You are 100% correct….. The championship is now a complete bore fest… people with an ounce of cop on will not be paying good money to see this rubbish when things open up again….

Where on earth are you getting 6 teams from…? Everyone knows only 2 teams ( Dublin/Kerry ) have any chance and of those 2 most money will be on one team…… The All Ireland football championship is now a non event

Donegal with a 16 point demolition without Murphy for most of the game is a very good sign going forward. Ronan1989 (Donegal) - Posts: 81 - 28/06/2021 00:58:15 2354012 Link 2 |
A very disappointing game and honestly I expected Sligo to be a bit more competitive considering what a big loss Cillian is to us. But Sligo and Leitrim have usually been the less competitive (domestic) counties in the Connacht SFC, without trying to be disrespectful to them. Mayo, Roscommon and Galway were all in division one last year and it's very tight between them. The Connacht SFC has thrown up three different winners in the past three seasons, which IMO makes it the most competitive provincial championship recently. It is not a dead competition (unlike the Leinster SFC) and tbh I don't expect us to win it this year. Gleebo (Mayo) - Posts: 2208 - 28/06/2021 09:41:31 2354034 Link 0 |
Well you have Donegal/Tyrone/Mayo. 5 teams.

With respect it is always posters from counties like Meath, and say Limerick, who claim football is dead. Yes football is not good in Meath, they are not very good. That is true. I do think the GAA needs to take a long hard look at the Championship though for the future. The Allianz league is a better competition. Meath man, what is the county doing to take on the Dubs?

Football is not good in Cavan yes that is true. You are a division 4 county. Ok, what you say is true though. The GAA needs to take a long hard look at the future championships. Maybe ban division 3 and 4 counties LOL. The lack of crowds does not help, blame the Govt and Hphet for this. They talk about an "outdoor summer"!!!
