Me too...I cant stand rugby as it's all about possession and kicking scores from open play is rare skill...penalties it takes nearly 3/4 minutes to kick them with exaggerated approach etc...Gaelic is almost as bad and this lark of bringing up the keeper is disgraceful if there is no fellah out the field able to kick a free you can forget about it...alot of time wasted too bringing up the keeper...I will give Kerry credit for keeping it traditional and not going down that route...

The blanket defense is the reason why teams hold on to the ball noo ,why would would any team kick to where 12 or 13 opponents are stationed.

It was 1991, and yes Barry Breen wore the bandage. Whitnell scored 2-1 from play against Kerry in the semi-final.

True,originally, but keep ball has evolved into a tactic that suits teams whether or not they intend to break through a defence. I'm not saying it doesn't make sense, if you're 3 points up with 10 minutes to go, passing the ball from one man to the other for the remainder of the game across and back the pitch pretty much guarantees victory. The jeep ball tactic is rewarding to the team but hard for opposing and neutral fans. It's borderline boredom but the end justifies the means. Dublin are the masters of this near the end of games and yes it's boring but very effective. It's almost a basketball tactic (although there s a time limit in that game). The first team I ever saw to use that tactic to effect was Dr. Crokes in Kerry years and years ago under manager Pat Ó Shea who was a top basketball player in his day. When Dublin brought in the ex irish basketball coach a couple of years ago they started the keep ball tactic. Maybe the gaa could look at the basketball model and maybe have a time limit on keep ball although refs have a hard enough job. I understand the tactic and I would use it too if it meant victory but it is hard on the eye.

this Dublin team will be remembered for the 6 in a row, but they will be remembered too for the keep ball football (basket ball I mean) they played...absolutely shocking stuff to look at, and if any team goes out to win with those tactics good luck to football, it is destroyed...

Possibly. The same way Tyrone will be remembered for being filthy, Kerry for winning easy all irelands, Donegal for their defensive football, none of these teams care. They are winners. I love the Dubs. The amount of Kerry lads I know down here & the Dubs live rent free in their heads. Glorious.

We have different memories. Tyrone won 3 AIs in the noughties. Their 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Granted the 1st was a fairly attritional final against then champions Armagh but it had to be so or they wouldn't have won. Yes they were a cute team in the same way as the great Kerry and Dublin teams that I've seen but they had some unbelievable footballers on every line too. Certainly not filthy or close to it. Yes defensive hardness has been a hallmark of the better Ulster teams since the 90s but it has to be so.

Ok filthy is too strong a word. Maybe the masters of the dark arts. They of course were a great team. I loved watching them put it up to Kerry. My point being that each successful team will have mud slung at them undeservedly in most cases & its mostly subjective too.

Topic gone very skewed from here on..anyways, these teams may not care, that's their own prerogative but they won't be remembered much outside their own counties after 15/20 years..great footballers are remembered..Kildare beating Meath in 1998 was a shock although that was a good Kildare team at that time..

Exactly boy. Remember the stuff some of these Kerry bucks were spouting when they weren't able for Tyrone. Same with the Kilkenny hurlers in their purple period. Limerick are the darlings at the minute but that will soon fade if the win one or two more. But isn't it a good thing that the dubs dominance is annoying kerry people? It proves that there's still a bit of fight left in them. Better be like that than be like pretty much every other county in Ireland who have accepted their fate and just kneel before the dubs. Sligo were very good that year, almost went on to beat eventual champions armagh in the quarters.
