Wonder is this the last of the Mayo guys to go. Hard to know which of them will be the biggest loss but personally I'd say Clarke who was a really good shot stopper. Parsons was a fine player too and did well to return to the panel after his awful injury. Vaughan probably still has nightmares about that reaction on Small which will always have people say it was the difference that day. We'll never know though. Best of luck to all three in the future. His inter county career began in 2002." Bryan Menton of Meath also has a Leinster medal from 2010. Not that I'll be buying it, but what's undignified about writing a book? He's not the first GAA player to write a book and won't be the last. Some have been very good, some have been awful. As someone else mentioned, we might get a few books from this Mayo panel at some stage. The first one at least might be worth a read. This season was a clear indicator for many of the old guard that a change of direction was well under way , but when comes to Mayo GAA people always weirdly add hyperbole for some strange reason... The Dublin posters for all the flak that they get seem to be the most measured in their opinions about Mayo compared to most other counties , but i guess thats because of the many games they've had against each other over the years. Burke is young but best wishes to him.Its true we don't know the circumstances or the effort required for some players. I was reading that Tom Parsons found the traveling extremely hard. He based in Dublin and said with Barrett gone back to Mayo and Seamie Ó Shea retiring it was only himself and Rob Hennelly left. Also with the covid there was no more car pooling. He said he was spending 20 hours a week travelling to and fro training. This is a constant for many players but having to travel solo prob makes it so much harder. Now apparently GAA players should be banned from announcing retirements on social media and he even has the gall to compare it to Trumps Twitter ban. You should be seen not heard. Brolly is a total hypocrite. He harps on about robotic football and boring manager and player interviews on one hand. Coming from a man who ridiculed Ciaran MacDonald for wearing white boots and blonde hair..."Swedish bridesmaid" I think was his quote at the time. Individuality it seems is scorned upon. Shut up and don't dare speak out unless you have won an All Ireland medal... This pandemic probably has many players questioning what's the point of going out training three or four times a week in weather like we have and being shouted at by managers and coaches brought in from other counties for mega 'expenses'. There's no logic to it. GAA games should be a hobby unless if when and when inter county players start getting pay cheques from their county boards to go full time. Its a hard gig alright, i know Tom is based in Dublin, i dont think im breaking confidences by saying Seamie is/was to, i know Cillian is as well, in fact a good few of the Mayo lads have been here for a while. While it is not my place to say and acknowledging its a tough gig, i do wonder is it better having split training camps, one in the east and one out west, if it was costing me obscene amounts of money as a county id look at it or at least analyse it. Im sure the response will be a Dub saying that in our Ivory Tower and know we are in a lucky position, (though we had Ciaran, Jack and Mick Fitz traveling inter county at one stage) I just wonder is this a way forward that may best mind the players welfare. Obviously there will be times on tactics and the like this isnt possible, but its one i often wonder about, a few of the Kerry and Roscommon lads are up here to.
