Galway Vs The Dub5

Replying To CiarraiMick:  "Imo Rory was the last of the natural full backs. A very solid player and I never saw him destroyed in a game and I've seen some great full backs take bad beatings. However his hiatus took from him I think but def owes Dublin nothing."
The only game I saw him roasted was the Leinster Semi in 2010 Vs Meath, whole defence was all over the shop that day, but Rory particularly at sea was a huge learning curve for him.

Absolutely though he all the natural physical attributes of a traditional 3, a great battler, leader and keeper of standards. He was very composed, never panicked and could play out from the back and be the anchor in terms of security. Only 1 of his All Ireland's were won when we played a sweeper.

It's a pity the years away took their toll on being able to hit that pitch again, but still owes the Dub5 nothing.

True. When he went to NZ he played a bit of ball but the standard very poor. Guys in USA are playing good standard. That break did him harm and the covid etc does nt help as he needed plenty of football. He s still young enough but the years fly by but def the last of the great full backs. A no nonsense player that got the job done quietly.

Conor McGill is a natural 'old school' full back. Sean Andy is another. Plenty still about. Try watching more than the top 3 or 4 teams.

He actually played a bit of ball out in the states for Chicago before hitting NZ and played a bit, I played out in NZ myself and it's rag tag, basically just lads from home who fancy a match and a bit of craic.

Rory like Jack was always someone who saw a bigger picture to life, both work with people going through adversities in life and I think on a personal level they see the game as a interest and hobby that doesn't consume their identity and both would have an altruistic nature. Maybe that's why both played so calm and composed.

I always liked the look of Sean Andy at Galway through the underage years and his first season for Galway seniors, not sure he's kicked on like I thought he would. There really isn't those huge profile super star 3's that there were. Come All Stars you always feel it could be anyone who's showed a bit of decent for, that year. The game evolves all the time doesn't it.

Wouldn't say he was the last of the natural full backs. Neil McGee, Drew Wylie and Ronan McNamee all still around and I'd consider them natural full backs. In Inter County underage games I've seen examples of what would be considered natural full backs, they're rarer now but definitely not gone totally.

Conor McGill is definitely a old school full back. And damn good one too

Hopefully its good momentum to becoming Kerry38, but then again we wouldn't be so immature as to indulge in such silliness.

Perhaps Dublin could put a nice big star on their jersey, like the soccer teams do, to satisfy their fans obviously desperate need for such things."
Yerra I think the transition is over Hermit, congratulations on winning the league today, I think it could well be Kerry38 in 2020 if we get it played, if I was a betting man I'd be backing Kerry to beat the Dub5 in the final.

Of course there are good full backs around still like the forementioned on posts but a lot of them play with packed defences in front of them. IMO he was a natural full back.

Again would point to McGill who doesn't play with a packed defense. One and one man marker. He is best in country at one on one marking.

One Covid case could scupper any team Tirchonaill, so you never know whats coming in the next few weeks!

Personally not looking past Cork in two weeks, nor do I think any other Kerry fan is either.

Best of luck next weekend against Tyrone, do or die stuff now, should be blood and thunder.

Keep replying to yourself there's a good boy. First sign of....

As for once again bringing in posts not relevant to the topic, this seems too be a prerequisite for kerry folk on here, as well as the obligatory smile emoji at the end of the post....

The topic is about Galway v Dublin. Concentrate harder....!

This game doesn't matter now, I wish TG4 would switch the live game to Mayo v Tyrone.

On Galway v Dubs. With nothing to play for now it's a kind of anti climax but it gives both teams a sense of freedom so it could make good viewing. Galway will feel they l have to show well after last week's collapse. Hope to see both teams utilise the subs bench also.

I made a semilar post that didn't make it on here, I'd much prefer to watch Mayo v Tyrone as there is something on the line in that game.

They should let the under 20 teams at it. Give them the final they deserve

It would be very short notice for them as until yesterday both Galway and Dublin still had a chance of winning league. Also I think both PJ and Dessie glad to get run out today.
