Should The Rebel Flag Be Banned At Cork Matches?

Interesting you mention Westmeath - if someone were to stand near you at a Westmeath game and wave a Qatar flag (maroon and white), would you ask them to take it down given that nation's links to what is essentially modern day slavery?

And what about this request from Boyle GAA to their fans:

link

Were they being insensitive choosing that image?"
I would say nearly everybody will accept that when originally used the Cork fans intentions were never to lend any legitimacy to white supremacists but by now that should no longer be the case as there is no excuse for not knowing what the flag represents.
As for other Nations Flags, my view would be that out of courtesy and respect to the Nations Flags the should never be used at GAA games other that for official use. The Qatar flag represents the Nation of Qatar and while there may be some questionable labour practices in the country the Flag does not represent a particular cause."
"while there may be some questionable labour practices in the country"

May be? Is this down to your ignorance, or are you some sort of apologist for the Qatari regime?

There is no maybe about it."]No, I am not apologizing for anything with it comes to Qatar but I do claim some ignorance on what has been happening there since they won the world cup as I switched off anything to do with Qatar and the World Cup once that happened. However the issue of migrant labour (what many would call exploitation) is not just an issue in Qatar and even broader still, the use of cheap labour in emerging market countries just so that the west gorge themselves on consumer products is a moral dilemma that we all are accountable for. The challenge would be to find a country in the world hasn't got its human rights issues (including our own) but getting back to this specific issue their flag does not represent a cause or specific issue like the confederate flag does."]Hypocrisy, double standards. Outrage over one flag but condone others. Some of the middle eastern countries are currently practicing slavery, they bring people from countries like Bangladesh as cheap labour, impound them & seize their passports, coercing them to in unsafe conditions & long hours. There are many human rights abuses, beatings, floggings & deaths. There is also massive sexual exploitation & rape of young woman held in servitude in these countries, but hey its not a popular bandwagon all over social media so all the apologists turn a blind eye. Even the Irish Govt practice selective outrage, they dish out Irish passports to many of the leaders of these State's to allow their money come to Ireland. So many on here practicing & talking double standards & drowning out debate by labelling any different viewpoint as racism.

Can you back your statement as a categorical fact, there is enough fake news coming from every angle at the moment. I cannot find any story of these being lynchings as you describe them, in the normal media circles. You cannot throw out statements to back a particular viewpoint not based on fact.

I have seen the Bangladesh flag at Mayo games on occasion- a green background with a red sun in the middle.

In case anyone thought it was just the Confederate Flag that was in danger of being erased from history a Statue of Teddy Roosevelt was removed from the front of a museum where it's been since 1940, Ulysses S Grant (Union General) statue was toppled, a statue of Francis Scott Key too, a statue of a Spanish Missionary Junipero Serra, a statue of George Washington was draped with the US Flag and burnt, a statue of Abraham Lincoln defaced, etc so it seems to be a trend that's just part of today's "woke" thinking.

If fairness that statue is an awful yoke and ide want it removed and replaced if I lived near it. There's a much nicer more traditional one in Stephens green

The Roosevelt one went cause of the silly looking native American and black slave either side of his giant horse and I'll shed no tear for Serra or any other missionary but attacking Grant is a joke and I hear the Lincoln thing is fake news

And just because something is there a long time does not make it ok.
Would you have turned round to Collins and Dev in 1918 and said sure the English are harmless cause they've been here for 800yrs so can't change now

Fair play to you but I just don't like the WAY these things are being done. If it's voted to remove statues or change a street name then so be it but just pure vandalism is disgusting. It's not stopping with the "Confederacy" stuff.

The fortunes of Bangladesh and Mayo do have a certain symmetry.

Letting mobs, wound up on social media decide to tear down anything they decide is not acceptable is a joke.
If you say it's ok to tear down something you agree with don't complain when they take down something you don't.

No one tore down the Roosevelt statue it was removed by the museum it is outside with the backing of the council after many years of campaigning.

I'm not for tearing down statues myself but I find it funny that many republican Americans who are suddenly against tearing down statues were cheering when it was Hussain, Gaddafi and Stalin that were getting ripped down

I'm not religious so I'm not sure about that.... I just see it as plain old vandalism, lawlessness, intolerance, etc.
