Dermot McCabe’s future as Westmeath senior football boss is uncertain after he was nominated for the managerial vacancy in his native Cavan.
The 1997 All-Star, who is employed by Cavan GAA as Games Development Manager, has been nominated for the Breffni County job along with Finbar O’Reilly. Cavan have been without a manager since Raymond Galligan stepped down earlier this month.
Appointed Westmeath manager last October, McCabe was tasked with rebuilding the team following a host of retirements and departures. They were relegated from Division 2 of the Allianz League after a number of narrow defeats, while the theme continued in the Leinster SFC and Tailteann Cup where they were pipped at the post by Kildare and Wicklow respectively.
Meanwhile, Renault have ended their 12-year sponsorship of Westmeath's football and hurling teams with current sleeve sponsors Writech tipped to replace the French car manufacturer as main sponsors.
