Offaly GAA is facing the prospect of being without a top table ahead of next month’s county convention.
It was revealed at last Tuesday night’s county board meeting that no nominations have been received yet for the key positions of chairperson, secretary and treasurer ahead of the annual gathering on December 10. The closing date for nominations and motions is next Tuesday, November 12.
Chairman Michael Duignan and treasurer Dervill Dolan are stepping down under the five-year rule, while Colm Cummins, who has been secretary for the past four years, is also bowing out. There was speculation that the trio would move around positions to retain involvement, but that won’t be happening, although Duignan will remain part of the Management Committee if he is retained as Central Council delegate, a position he was elected to last year.
Vice-chairman and CCC chairman James Murphy is also stepping down, but PRO Padraig O’Meara has signalled his intent to seek re-election.
The outgoing executive has appealed for new people to come forward and will impart whatever advice and help they can to ensure a smooth handover.
