Limerick club South Liberties have publicly thanked JP McManus for presenting them with the silks worn by Paul Townsend when he rode ‘I am Maximus’ to victory in last year’s Aintree Grand National.

The businessman, who famously donated €32 million to the GAA and its 32 county boards in 2023, owns the Willie Mullins-trained horse whose green and gold colours were inspired by McManus’ home club.

The long-time Limerick GAA sponsor presented the silks to South Liberties chairman John Godfrey and players Barry Nash and Eoghan Godfrey. Nash is a five-time All-Ireland SHC winner with the Treaty County.

"The club was beyond honoured recently, when JP McManus presented this amazing frame to Chairman John Godfrey, along with Barry Nash and Eoghan Godfrey,” a statement from South Liberties read.

"The South Liberties colours were worn last year by Paul Townend on 'I am Maximus', winning the Aintree Grand National in 2024. It will be hung with immense pride in our clubhouse. Thank you JP and the McManus families."
