1787609 i am curious

Why are dublin the best team in the modern era ???????
won two extremely tight finals. In 11 kerry were the better team but lost on the day and in 13 if they stopped fouling in last ten mins and let mayo play there is a good chance that mayo would have shaded it.

Dont get me wrong down were the better team in 2010 and cork slipped it

but i really dont know where this idea of dublin being the best team in the modern era.. When did that era start

I give you that dublin are the best team in leinster no question

Im not even sure if dublin are the best team in ireland as we speak

I love the dublin players cause they give is everything and are gracious but some of the supporters my god.
If a foreginer logged in here they would be convinvced that dublin were an all conquering team leaving a wake of destruction in their path where as nothing could be further from the truth

I'm curious
who exactly is saying Dublin are the best team in the modern era?is it one Dublin supporter or several?
so because possibly one/several supporters supposedly said this a foreigner would think Dublin were an all conquering team
cant see how you come to that conclusion??out off all the thousands of posts put up here by Dublin supporters
and you single out a tiny few!!

Who's saying that? Whoever wins on Sunday will get that accolade, and deservedly so - that's what's on the line here!

I firmly believe that this Dublin team will run riot on an average Kerry defence.
If they can get their hands on the ball. Kerry will likely win more possession around the middle 8.

So you agree that the Kerry back are average? Dublin will also break even in the middle Cluxton is too good with his kickouts to give ball away.

One on one there is no Kerry back who will get the better of his Dublin opponent.
Really?

I apologies Dean Rock will Probably start and Shane Enright will get the best of him, the rest will be chasing shadows. And fitzmaurice knows this and that is why he will have at least 1 sweeper.

The Kerry backs were subtly exposed by Tyrone running at them and if Tyrone had taken there goal chances then the Kerry lads would be in Spain now.
1 Save from a super shot stopper, 1 mistake by a Kerry defender handed Tyrone a chance through the middle from which they got a point and 1 scuffed snapshot shot. Kerry, in turn, missed 7 kicks at points I would expect any club forward line to convert. You could also say that Dublin were open to Mayo's direct running. If needed Kerry will test those capabilities a lot more than Mayo.

No Kerry wides were under pressure bar 1, Kerry will meet an even more intense defensive on Sunday and the the contributions of Buckley, O'Brien, Walsh will be reduced. Also Kerry try to open teams up with fast kickpassing not powerful running so i think your wrong here also.

The other major exposure that Tyrone showed is how to take a much vaunted Kerry midfield out of it. Maher and Moran were taken out of the game in the semi Moran was actually taken off, and this template will serve Jim Gavin well.

Moran was taken off and shouldn't have been. Maher had a cracking game. Also, Tyrone's ball winners around the middle of the park are probably stronger in getting their hands on the ball than the Dubs are. Kerry have Buckley and Walsh who generally hoover up tremendous amounts of lose and scrappy possession.

"Moran was taken off and shouldn't have being" are you doubting you tactical mastermind fitzmaurice. He was not in the game and Maher done all his work facing his own goal help out troubled defenders. I agree Buckley and Walsh get alot of loose ball But they will face Mccaffery and Mccarthy who do every bit as much and something will have to give.

Hopefully it will be a good game.

My now county man Kevin McStay call's it for Dublin writing in the Evening Herald.
Headline
'Kevin McStay: Strength of the bench to see Dubs to nervy victory'.

----------------------------------------------------------
There is no doubt now that the majority of the top pundits are calling it for Dublin. Are we all wrong? Time will tell.

Im getting a bit fed up with all this talk about the final so for my sins I decided to watch the 2007 and 2013 kerry/dublin games to calm my nerves. Both very different but all the same enjoyable games to watch. Kerry and Dublin sides that lined out in 2013 are fairly similiar to what will line out on Sunday with only 2 to 3 changes on either side.

In 2013 IMO Kerry didnt allow there half backs to wander too far into Dublins half of the pitch except for a few runs from Tomas. For the final on Sunday some people are expecting Kerry to play with one or two sweepers but Fitzmaurice cant for example bring Donnacadh Walsh or O Brien back to sweep as there is no way he will leave McCarthy or McCaffrey free without being tracked.

I believe Fitzmaurice will simply instruct his 6 backs to hold their positions and Walsh and O Brien will follow the two Dublin half backs when Dublin have the ball.

In 2013 Marc O Se had the task of marking Brogan but I have a feeling Enright is the form player in the full back line this year and may be given the task of taking Brogan. In 2013 Brogan scored some unbelievable scores with very little space and somehow wasnt awarded the man of the match. I feel he is the danger man for Dublin and slightly underrated as he is the best scoring forward in the country IMO.

Kerry will need O Donoghue and Cooper to be at their best if Kerry are to have a chance..its a hard ask for the two players but hopefully they can recover to near their best on Sunday. As Ger Power said we have a "small chance" on Sunday so hopefully we can turn that small chance into a win.

Are St John's Ambulance still at Croke Park?

Load up on antacids (to dissipate the bile of the sore losers) and pins (to run off some of the water on the brain of the Yahooos who've lost it after 'their' win.

As for the rest of humanity, let's enjoy the spectacle and the drama. Let's hope the skills level is high, the discipline good and the result favours the best team in the day.

No, on second thoughts, let's hear it for EF & Co: up the Kingdom!

Wow JamesH now that is a surprise, a columnist employed by a Dublin local as a national title, giving Dublin the nod.

Reminds me of the Friday of the 2009 All Ireland between Cork and Kerry, when the main headline in that paper was, 'Whealan believes Dublin will win Sam in 2010'

I'll stick with Michael Quirke and Sylvester Hennessey in the Kerry Eye...

As DDAy approaches I am more convinced than ever that Kerry will come out on top I wathced the "013" classic again and Kerry were ahead with 69 1/2mins on the clock a silly mistake gifted Dublin a goal the rest is as they say history Kerry are better now and I mean better by far under the guidance of a super backroom tem their focus has been on this game for a long time can't see them let this one slip The are not called the Kingdom for nothing I look forward to an intriguing game.Dublin 4 prawns Kerry 4 Sam!

I don't see Kevin McStay as a top pundit. His analysis and punditry are mid table in my opinion. Billy Joe Padden & James Horan are the only Mayo men who are really on the ball.

I'd be more interested in what Whelo and Tomas O'Se are saying. Recent players with an intelligent insight into the game.

Still impossible to call this one. I think that it could be another draw.

Ah now pdempsey, I agree with you that Ciaran Whelan and Tomas O Se are normally top pundits but you didn't expect them to be that insightful for this match? Actually, both boys went for their own counties as fully expected in yesterdays Irish Indo preview video. I disagree with you about McStay, sure, I think his a bit one-eyed when it comes to Mayo but aren't all pundits the same when it comes to there own counties but on balance his very good when reviewing matches, from a neutral perspective. Kevin is far from alone in predicting a win for Dublin, the majority of neutral pundits in the media are of similar mind.

Agreed Liamo, let's just hope there isn't skullduggery with the ballboys and kickouts isn't present this time. Like I know we are away from home and all that entails but that was just disappointing and something we'd never resort to.

O'Shea great pundit and will say how it is. Whelan lost all respect when he ridiculed Tyrone one week for one incident and said very little when Dubs were a disgrace in first game against Mayo. All pundits will have a certain amount of bias but Whelan, Martin Carney, Colm OR, Brolly and Spillane wear their hatred of some counties on their sleeves and have had their day. Dara OShea is also quite good, Senal Connell very good on Sky.

The 2 week break won't be enough to prepare adequately for a final against the reigning champions. I know it's not the best marker to use but Kerry having demolished Kildare this year were more impressive and more clinical. Kildare were going into that match full of confidence having beaten Cork and were expected to put in a good display. Before the Dublin match nothing was expected of them.
