Most of those lads didn't play any League games at all last year, Chin played 3, Jacko 2 and a half . And Mac was poor in the few minutes he played. Only Damien of the lads you name played in every League game last year. Why are people coming on this forum saying we are doomed for this League, then start naming out a heap of lads who are missing, without mentioning the fact most of them missed most of last years League also?

A few facts for you lad as regards our underage compared to the other counties in Leinster- We have reached 2 of the last 3 Leinster u20 finals losing both narrowly. Galway haven't reached any, while Kilkenny and Dublin only reached 1. Offaly also reached 2. We beat Kilkenny well at minor in Championship last year, while we beat Dublin at minor in Championship in 2022 and 2023. We beat Offaly at minor by double digits in 2023 and 2024, while last year our u15s beat Offaly by 30 points and our u16s beat theirs by 36 points. We haven't played many Munster teams in that time, but our minors did beat Corks well last year in a knockout championship game, they were leading by 12 before the end of normal time. Being as you are saying we aren't producing any players we must be the luckiest county in Ireland to have got those results. And Cian Byrne didn't score 1-3 from play in a Championship game against Kilkenny at Nowlan Park last year, I must have dreamt being there too sure. Lost to Waterford by 4, beat Westmeath and Kildare pretty comprehensively in the end. Can't read anything much into those results. We will have to stop Cork from getting goals. Won't be easy.

Does mac, Chin, and ryan really need to play many league game. I don't think so, one or two at end tbh. We are going to take a few big beating alright but it all about championshipand finding new players. hunting (Wexford) - Posts: 1036 - 21/01/2025 08:38:21 2586721 Link 0 |
For the last three years we must be the most injury prone team in the country. Magpie2 (Wexford) - Posts: 388 - 21/01/2025 08:55:11 2586723 Link 0 |
Was thinking the same myself . Dissapointing Damien is now out but we may go with what we have for now . It's a great chance for young lads to make a claim for their place.

The final opportunity for that group was last year really. Fixtures fell nicely for us and even after the no show in Antrim, at half time in KK we looked favourites to get to a Leinster final. But we couldn't get it done and another dismal defeat in Thurles followed. I thought Rossi could have been a bit braver with player selections and style of play last year, going totally away from how we played in the league to the route one stuff in championship. We have no option this year but to give inexperienced guys a go, likely down the spine of the team too. Timbertony (Wexford) - Posts: 320 - 21/01/2025 09:38:42 2586731 Link 0 |

Would expect a similar team to this. Cant see us playing 3 inside id expect K Foley to be named at 15 and play around midfield . Id like to see Jack Redmond get a chance of a start too . I just hope our lads go out and take the game to Cork and have a clear and coherent game plan. Once we show something about us on Saturday ill be happy

Happy retirement Mogie. Past hurler (None) - Posts: 849 - 21/01/2025 12:40:51 2586778 Link 1 |
Sad to hear Mogie has retired but he owes Wexford hurling nothing. What a servant coming back from two cruciate injuries he was a real leader and always stepped up when we needed him. Afinestick96 (Wexford) - Posts: 406 - 21/01/2025 13:05:31 2586782 Link 0 |
Absolutely. One of the best we have had since the early 90s. Hope he finds success in whatever he does going forwards.

Sad to see Liam Og go but his time has probably come, owes this county nothing. His performances against Clare and Waterford in 2014 were unreal and Kilkenny in 2023 to all but save us from the brink won't be forgotten. The county's loss will be our gain on the club scene. You will be among the favourites for Senior hurling this year, if some of the rumours about other clubs are true.

The spine of the team was an issue last year, particularly when Ryan was out and Foley was away, which of course he will be this year too. I really hope the panel have been bulking up over the winter and doing the gym work. Last year Cork (particularly their backs) skittled us in the physical stakes, although it was not as embarrassing as the year before when Clare absolutely steamrolled us. Of course it takes a few years to build up our strength and conditioning to the level required to compete at the highest level. It will be interesting to see who has been sticking to the diet, nutrition and fitness programs during the off season. It should be evident in the opening few games and could provide a few pointers to the year ahead when winning primary possession and the dirty ball (which we did not enough of last year for long spells in the championship in Nowlan Park) and at any stage really v Clare in Thurles. Fanning made about 3 or 4 world class saves in the game last year that stopped it from being a repeat of the Clare game

Id be somewhat stunned if Cillian Byrne is anywhere near physically ready for this level. Not doubting his ability at all but he looked very light when I last saw him play.
