I'm not a fan of these neutral venues. Provincial finalists should receive award of 2 home games. In the Tailteann Cup, the five teams that miss out on the preliminary quarter-finals could receive a consolation award of 2 home games in the next year's Tailteann Cup. The remaining 3 extra home games can go to the three highest seeds.

Except for the games ye crowd were involved in!
I recall a couple of years the Mayo games in Round 1 and 2 had more at them than the other 7 games combined.

11,329 Clones
"Nearly 10,000" Derry
8,000 Mullingar.
Looked a small crowd in Omagh?5k?"
I think it was nearer 10,000 in Navan yesterday.

Replying To ForeverBlue2: "9000 can hardly be described as a big crowd… Fair play to the Dublin supporters who travelled in big numbers which is strange because they wouldn't go to Croke park beside them last weekend… The FA Cup Final might have had a lot to do with that I'd say..!"

So basically the poor turnout by Dubs was due to the FA Cup{ and not "They had a lot more sense than waste time and money going to a non event…. Only a fool pays into an event that you know the outcome beforehand…"

Brilliant!!

If the game had been in Longford, nobody from Waterford would have traveled and you wouldn't have broken 250 in total attendance. So wouldn't have mattered a damn really!

9000 in Breffni park…. The last time the 2 sides met in a league match at the same venue the attendance was just short of 17000…. It just shows what a dead duck this football championship is… yet the deluded think attendance figures are holding up year on year… bonkers stuff

The Group stages are a waste of time alright so I can see why people don't attend. There is no jeopardy as everyone knew before a ball was thrown in that Meath, Clare, Cavan and Westmeath were going to finish bottom. In fairness to Westmeath they have been competitive but will still likely finish bottom given the group they got.

Fans from the bigger counties are waiting until the knockout stages and who can blame them, especially with the prices of tickets increasing from quarterfinals on.

Attendances at football matchs are half what they were ten years ago . Suits in Croke park couldn't care less .

I wouldn't rule out Clare taking Donegal the next day out, nor Westmeath doing a job on Derry! Should Tyrone draw or win against Cork, then Donegal would be gone on the head-to-head vs. Clare.

It was fairly dead-cert about Meath and Cavan, though!

Ah now don't be twisting Forever and ever Blue's head trying to do some kind of deluded Maths to counter your factual argument. The lad will soon have to start paying in and count the fans. Looking forward to another great weekend of football in Round 3. All teams with something to play for.

Westmeath it's possible given the place Derry are in mentally and physically however little or no chance of Clare causing upset. Tyrone took care of them fairly easily and Donegal are better than Tyrone this year and with two weeks to prepare they'll be out to prove a point in that game and seal first place in the group so long as Tyrone beat Cork.

Maybe the attendance figures are not all bad for the size of the population of the country. When compared to the L.O.I premier division[2700] L.O.I first division [590] and Irish league[1600] they are pretty healthy [the G.A.A football figures].Those were the figures for 2023.
Comparing last years attendance figures from 2 countries with similar population sizes to Ireland---Norway [5700] and Denmark[10300].These were the figures from the top football divisions in both countries. Both had an over 30 match program.

When only 75 turn up to an inter county championship match regardless of the teams alarm bells should be ringing loudly but no the deluded in the GAA think crowd figures are holding up fine… Embarrassing stuff

Once May hits you have a huge amount of festivals and events in Ireland. The weekend just gone you had Bloom in Dublin, Rory Gallagher in Donegal, Shearfest in Galway, Forbidden Fruit Dublin, Listowel Writers week Kerry, Fleadh Nua in Clare, they're just the one's I heard mentioned. And no doubt loads more in other spots. That will be it for the rest of the summer. A lot of meaningless games competing with a big array of good festivals, communions, other sports, holidays etc

Ros v Clare and Mayo v Kikdare in the old knock out Qualifiers.
Around 13k turned up.
