Regardless of us being involved or not an all ireland quarter final at 1.15 or 3.15 on a Saturday does nothing to promote our games

They must want to keep the crowd down with those times.
What is wrong with 5pm and 7pm?

Clashes on RTE with other sports apparently. Says alot for the GAAs equal promotion of hurling that TCSFs in the secondary football competition are given precedence over AIQFs in hurling. It's hurling Feile that Saturday too and we are hosting it so even if the first game was at 5pm all the lads and their families and mentors representing those counties at Feile wont be able to get back up there in time anyway. And the football Feile is the same weekend as the AIFSFs . Couldn't make it up.

Scandalous but remember the times, days and venues can be changed. The GAA would often confirm these the Monday of the fixture. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a change

Exactly . Thurles should have no trouble holding the crowd with those times

What is wrong with Sunday?

I think the GAA are saving the Sunday for Tailteann cup Semi's . Scandalous All Ireland Hurling Quarter finals taking second billing.

Yeah, a whole thing when the Tailteann Cup was first being established was the GAA promising that its semi-finals would have sole billing some Sunday each year, for the sake of promoting and showcasing the competition. Hence the hurling quarter-finals are on the Saturday.

And I believe the early throw-in times for the quarter-finals are down to RTE being committed to showing soccer matches from the European Championships later that day.

IF we make it to the quarter-finals, the Féile being on in Wexford that day doesn't help things either. For a start, I think there's something like 18 or 20 Wexford clubs involved across hurling and camogie, and the Féile being on means they're basically being told 'you can forget about going to the senior hurling match'.

Could also make it difficult for all the venues to even get volunteers for the day. Considering that games are to go on all day until about 5 p.m. or later, volunteers would face a situation of 'not only can you not go to the match, you might not even be able to watch the match'.

But anyway....we have to get there first.

Considering the road to Thurles, it might actually encourage people to go. Barring the U21 finals in 14 and 15 have never seen us bring a decent crowd to Thurles for a QF, you're just probably talking half of what travelled to Kilkenny

If we make the quarters then should the county board be making a lot of noise trying to change the date. Itd a ridiculous situation.

Another crazy decision from the GAA impacting hurling, its like they are going out of their way this past couple of years to damage the game. It used to seem like the GAA made mostly the right moves, not so of late and most certainly not serving the interests of hurling well.

That was after beating Clare and Waterford though. And didn't end well. Probably put off alot of lads from going again to support the team until the Leinster Final in 2017!

Another humiliating day. Was it the year after Waterford beat us without breaking sweat down there too?

Anyway, get through Laois and then all roads lead back to Thurles!

It's actually the final of the URC that is taking place that Saturday evening. tailteann cup semi-finals given the Sunday, an absolute joke they are ranked ahead of the hurling qr finals
Re the expected crowd, we had the exact same situation 2 years ago for Cork v Galway and Clare v Wexford, and the place was jammers.
If it's Cork v Dublin and Clare v Wexford, it will be packed. Had Dublin somehow beaten Kilkenny, I think they would have split the games, and put one of the Sunday. I'm pretty sure the fixtures list at one point inferred that.
All told, not the GAA's greatest hour.
When added to the lack of coverage of the Leinster Hurling Championship, you have to ask whether Croke Park have become complacent around hurling because the product is selling itself at the top level.

I'd be fairly sure they're already thinking about making some noise about having things changed if we get there. But hard to see any leeway on it as regards the date, unless Croke Park goes back on its word about Tailteann Cup semi-finals having sole billing on a Sunday.

County Board would be caught by the whole timing of it too. Surely can't make much noise until or unless we actually qualify for a quarter-final, and that won't be before Saturday evening, meaning probably Monday before any noise can be made properly. And that in turn would be just five days before the scheduled date of the quarter-finals. Really is hard to see anything being changed.

No we lost to Clare AET the year before. Clare went on to win the AI that year.

Thurles was not "jammed" that day, and the Wexford crowd was tiny. Clare had thousands and they roared them over the line in the last 10 minutes.
RTE were able to show matches on the News channel a few weeks back. They should move the rugby there!
1:15 on a Saturday will hit the GAA in the pocket. They put Wexford v Clare at that sort of time in Cork and people voted with their feet.
