What kind of god gives you a rod and says you can't go fishing?

That's the whole point! Humanity is flawed and needs order and rules.

Back to Dostoyevsky: "Without God, everything is permitted."

The electorate are well enough informed prior to the election that FFG won't go into government with SF. So it cant really be called scandalous. Maybe if more people bothered their arses voting instead of giving out (not meaning you) things might be different! Our voting system is the envy of many the country around the world for its stability. There only us and Malta that have PR! And with that in mind, as we've seen in this election, there's nothing to stop anyone putting themselves up for election, all you need is 30 constituency signatures and 500 hundred quid! I have the utmost respect for anyone that does this and no respect for the moaners!"
I don't think it's that perfect a system, if it was there would be a hell
of a lot more than 2 countries using it.

Far more people have been killed by atheist regimes from Stalin to Hitler to Mao and non Christians.

Christians too have contributed their share of course. Through doing anti Christian things. Humans left to their own devices without any concept that there will be a day of reckoning are not a pleasant crew. As history tells us.

Barney how do the far-right in this country who claim to be Christian and upholding Christian ideals square their opposition and hatred of foreign immigrants to the fact that Joseph and a pregnant Mary were strangers in a foreign land 2000 years ago and were turned away from accommodation and help. If they arrived in Ireland in 2024 some 'Christians' would be shouting and roaring at them as they got off a bus and burning down hotels to accommodate them. As a Christian myself I'd like to think my fellow Christians would realise where our religion came from and the circumstances involved.

Jesus said Love is the greatest Commandment .
Yet the number of self declared "Christians" spreading hate outnumber those who practise the greatest Commandment by many many multiples.

Crusades were a good example of Christians killing Muslims in the name of God! The "my god is better than yours" mantra, is rearing it's ugly head again. "Deus lo Vult" was the war cry, killing Muslims in the name of Christianity! Nowadays, Americans and the West just arm Israelis to accomplish it.

Our religion came from Rome and the decision of the Roman Empire to try an alternative (or at least secondary) method of conquest to all out warfare and butchery.

There's a place for religious worship in the world, but it absolutely should not follow the preachings of ANY organised religious order. ALL have proven (and continue to prove) to be hierarchical control structures run for the gain of the few.

People are entitled to their beliefs but I find all religions mind boggling. They probably do in some sense keep a certain amount of order in the world but how any sane minded person thinks there is a higher power overseeing everything in the world is beyond me.

A rather crude characterisation of people who believe in God and creation.

There are very few who believe that their god is determining everything from what they will have for dinner to the winner of the 2.30 at Fairyhouse.

Creation is as viable an explanation of what we know of the origin of the Universe - via Big Bang theory which was developed by a Belgian priest - as any. Otherwise you must accept that out of nothing came everything.
