Question. - Should a committed Atheists when he / she takes an oath in a court of law they will start by saying, I swear by almighty God that the evidence I shall give will be the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help me God. Is that oath valid, invalid, legal, illegal, other or hypocritical, if that oath was found to be untrue how could that person be charged with perjury.

Explain to me again how you can make something out of nothing.

Unfortunately many of the atheists I have encountered have a level of passion that seems to stem from a deep anger. They aren't seeking truth. They're seeking to deny God for vanity. "Look how rational I am. I'm much smarter than that believer over there". You need to define evidence. There's evidence for symmetry in nature that logically implies intelligent design. Proof of God is in direct conflict with free will. If you knew for sure you'd no longer be free to choose. There may be a green teapot orbiting Mars. I don't know. There could be fairies in your garden too. I don't know. The point is neither do you so you shouldn't say you're certain of it. If your belief those fairies has encouraged you to volunteer in your community, or help somebody in need, or helped you through difficult times I'd be delighted for you. Their impact in your life would make them very real to you. Doylerwex (Wexford) - Posts: 3178 - 03/12/2024 23:00:47 2582276 Link 1 |
That is a huge hypocrisy. They have a free pass to be dishonest in court, bit what is honest to one with no moral code ?

Vera Pauw led the Irish women to a World Cup. They turned on her. Remarkable progress since. Not. legendzxix (Kerry) - Posts: 8326 - 04/12/2024 08:18:40 2582282 Link 1 |
Does depend where you live. There aren't Tuatha de Danann in every garden.

You're missing my point. I can't explain it anymore than any of you can explain religion. The day I see proof of how we came to be, I'll be all eyes and ears. But until then you can all come off your high horse about how we got here and where we are going.

They cannot explain it. When Lamaitre on basis of Hubble observations theorised the origin of Universe in "Big Bang" this caused huge opposition within scientific community. It overturned centuries of speculation. In Soviet Union it led to murders and imprisonments because the atheist regime reccognised that Big Bang was possibly the Act of Creation. It is as likely as any of the increasingly bizarre theories that nothing just cause nothing or of other dimensions. All human theories including the religious view of Creation are ultimately human beings guessing. However, every human religious belief system has its origins in a creation story. All are allegorical necessarily but interesting that all have one is it not? Just as they all have basic morality. Which atheist systems do not. Committed christians, for example, can and do break the basic commandments with the excuse that a forgiving god was testing them or whatever. Devout American christians are currently worshipping multiple unrepentant, sinful false gods and detesting their neighbours

Assuming god created everything, where is your basic morality towards certain creations that you very clearly despise? An atheist is more honest and moral than a believer that suits himself. It might be a cliché but there really is no hate like christian love Breffni40 (Cavan) - Posts: 12216 - 04/12/2024 10:37:55 2582297 Link 2 |
It's said 17 out 20 inmates on death row in the States request a cleric to pray with them just before their execution, one refused to pray, when asked why he said as an atheist It's easier not to believe than it is to believe. supersub15 (Carlow) - Posts: 3074 - 04/12/2024 10:39:26 2582299 Link 1 |
I'm always surprised by the amount of self confessed atheists who celebrate Christmas each year. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1044 - 04/12/2024 10:57:50 2582301 Link 1 |
Or take communion 'out of politeness' at mass for weddings, funerals, etc

Do you think god agrees with the death penalty?

A lot of people don't seem to know what Christmas is supposed to about, they see it as mid Winter party season, clatter the place with decorations and buy presents for kids and each other, the real meaning of it is lost on most people I think. I always like Christmas time cause it brings back memories of what it used to be once upon a time, at least we still call it Christmas here, the woke crowd haven't ruined that yet. In fairness Christmas is more to Irish households than just the religious festival. It's the nostalgia of simpler times, an opportunity to connect with loved ones and old friends. Most people are in good form. I wouldn't begrudge anyone that enjoyment. From a religious perspective it's the time we're most charitable too and maybe look outward and show more gratitude. It's very important to Catholics but we don't have a monopoly on it. If it gets a few more people thinking about their neighbours and being kind to eachother that's enough. To me it's the ultimate celebration on the love of God. Assuming what I believe is true, imagine how Mary and Joseph must have felt. Exactly, their beliefs (or lack of) are easily bought this time of year.
