Management have had 4 months. Some of the effort by "some" senior players suggest to me that maybe Division 2 might be no harm and build again. Some of the antics by substituted players and subs tell me it's them who should go.

I think Obrien from Clonkill is obvious choice. Won championship few times managed our county 20s on two separate occasions and more importantly has that outside experience of coaching offaly senior hurlers with Michael fennelly and mick Kavanagh. He's the best internal imo

Disaster loosing Greville s a coach in development squads agree there with the podcast . Proves my point whatever football hurling is not being planned and promoted enough in the executive level. Gaaforlife2023 (Longford) - Posts: 637 - 10/03/2025 20:44:23 2595857 Link 0 |

Westmeath hurling is better than what showed on Sunday. Not patronizing and take no joy in that kind of result. When Waterford Regional first open we were back boned by Westmeath men. So I have great time for them and the friendships. We had a lot of fun also. Canuck (Waterford) - Posts: 2978 - 11/03/2025 02:43:12 2595881 Link 0 |
Would he take it at this stage in the season though? I'm not sure. I definitely think he would get a response out of the players for Joe Mcdonagh

Is Kevin O'Brien with the u15 group that beat Kilkenny last weekend? u16s have a strong group as well under Ger Beehan. The minors this year are a decent side. Potentially in line for a string of promising minor teams it'd be great to see us make some progress at this grade. Last year's minors threatened to go on a run after a few big wins but ultimately fell off then, still a number of quality players from that side. It's definitely fair to sat there's a been a big improvement at underage level. Do we put that down to the clubs? After listening to the podcast with Adrian Moran and Pat O'Brien talking about the lack of communication from the county board to development squads I would say the improvement is definitely down to a number of our clubs doing great work. Castletown have their underage players on S&C and nutrition programmes. Dheen (Westmeath) - Posts: 1009 - 12/03/2025 09:20:50 2596033 Link 1 |
We have quite a few promising underage players players which is good to see, hopefully they can develop into fine club players and then inter county ones but it's going to be 5-6 years in most cases at least, we need to be careful about expectations too, saying we beat Kilkenny under 15s at the weekend is not true, we beat a Kilkenny team minus players from their colleges A teams, too often we claim to have underage teams that have beaten Cork or Galway in football or Kilkenny in hurling, the reality is usually it's a Cork East side or a Galway North, obviously wins are good but expecting us to then challenge at Leinster minor championship level is a lot different. That's true in fairness but to be competing with any Kilkenny team or beating them regardless is a good sign, and the fact we are seeing it from numerous different groups is promising. Completely different story when it comes to the Leinster minor championship but it shows there is potential to do something. When we've beaten Kilkenny, Wexford and Dublin at minor and u21 in years gone by it was by groups who showed similar promise to what we are seeing now with some of the development squads. The key is to keep the same men with them all the way up. It's a shame about Johnny Greville's departure, that's a real setback.

Johnny should be our senior manager. Massive mistake by county board not to appoint him. Left Full (Westmeath) - Posts: 255 - 12/03/2025 11:21:24 2596051 Link 1 |

Seem to be down from Youtube as well.???? Tough but fair questions posed. Some times that is what is needed to improve a situation. BarrRst (Westmeath) - Posts: 35 - 12/03/2025 14:54:15 2596089 Link 0 |
In this day and age you cant just throw peoples names around when they have no forum to confirm or deny. On one hand we were admitting we didn't personally know anything about certain structures but continued to throw around comments based on "a fella told me".
