Don't agree. Have seen this with our county senior team with relegation from the top division and I'm of the belief any sustained period in Division 1 would greatly improve how we do in the championship.

Dominic's are not long up from the Intermediate grade, Western Gaels if they drop down could well struggle to make a return. The young players on their teams are better served with Senior football in the years ahead even if that means they have to ship some heavy defeats along the way.

Replying To The_analyser:  "Elphin nine points to spare against North Roscommon to reach the last eight. Clann,Boyle or Roscommon Gaels they'll play.

Castlerea have retained their senior status with a real hard earned win, down to 14 men and Western Gaels 5 points in front with 15 minutes to play looked very dodgy for them, Adam McDermott provided the leadership they needed.

Western Gaels v St Dominic's for the drop won't be easy to pick a winner there."
Good to hear Castlerea retaining senior status. We need our few big towns in senior ranks. Hope it will encourage the youngsters to continue to take an interest in the team and give them an incentive to play the game

Pearses v Four Roads and Dominics v Oran in the hurling semis. If I was a betting man I'd be tipping Four Roads v Oran for the final. I presume the county champions still a good way off Mayo, likely Tooreen?

I know there was a Nicky Rackard this year but club hurling seems to be on very shaky ground in the county. Even in Mayo most of the towns have a junior team and you have Moyturra setting up a team in recent years. There has been no sign of a new hurling club in Ros in years and years. No urban club apart from the Gaels which begs the question how the game will survive at underage in the county. Pearses might also be OK with population.

I could be way out but did Brigids and possibly Faithleachs enter hurling teams at underage about 30 years ago? Obviously football is the dominant force but even from a population perspective you'd think junior level clubs would have popped up in areas with decent popualtion like Kiltoom/Monksland or some of the other towns in the county. Doesn't seem to be any spillage across the border from Tooreen/Ballyhaunis either.

Brilliant performance by Aoife O Rourke in winning at least a bronze medal at the World Boxing Championships this afternoon. Four of the five judges gave Aoife all three rounds. How one judge gave all three rounds to the boxer from Norway is hard to believe at this level. Aoife now boxes the impressive Lina Wang from China in the semi final. Hopefully Aoife can upgrade the bronze medal to a silver or gold. I think she will.

Good game in Kiltoom tonight.

Oran raced into a 8 point lead the margin was cut to one point at half time. Pearses then had a 5 point lead 2nd half only for Oran to level it up. Last few minutes a pair of Paul Carey two pointer free gave them a 4 point lead but once again Oran battled back to level it and brought the game to extra time.

Half time in extra time Oran had a point lead but that was as good as it got as their scores dried up and Pearses sealed the win the 2nd half.

Elsewhere Roscommon Gaels B Strokestown B by 16 points in the Junior A relegation final.

Senior Championship Q-Final Draw

Padraig Pearses V Boyle

Roscommon Gaels V St Brigids

Clann na nGael V Elphin

Michael Glaveys V St Faithleachs

Games to be played weekend of 19/20/21 September in neutral venues.

Three really exciting games as well as elphin clan

dont understand why topping the group doesn't 't get you home advantage for the quarter finals instead of neutral venues
the fourth first seed team, not being the best second place team from the groups (st Brigids) automatically is quite strange

Still should be class

Not fully convinced by Pearse's but were solid against poor bridesmaid Oran tonight in the perlims

I was thinking brigids aswell because the four football teams surely they could have at least one hurling team

Hard luck to Oran, they really ran Pearses close. Pearses bench and conditioning seemed to be the difference in the end. A stiff test like that will do PP no harm at all. Paul Carey always seems so impressive in club championship, surprised he hasn't broke into the county panel.

Pearses making very hard work of Oran last night. The penalty was a joke. Pearses got over the line however, Paul Carey kicking some excellent 2 point frees towards the end to secure the win. Pearses look such a different team without Niall Daly.

Quarter finals and semi final paths decided.

Brigits v Ros Gaels
Faithleach's v Michael Glaveys
Boyle v Pearses
Clann v Elphin

Brigits and Ros Gaels has potentiol to be a great game, Roscommon Gaels will not fear Brigits and will really fancy a scalp here. Clann should ease past Elphin. Boyle v Pearses will be a cracker, 2 of the best teams in the county and I can see Boyle edging this one. Faithleachs v Glaveys, 2 teams relegated in the league and a real battle, Glaveys will be on a high after the group stage and will make this a dog fight, I see them coming out on top but narrowly.

Replying To Gaa_lover:  "So much for Brigids running away with things in the Roscommon championship this year. Had to settle for 2nd place in group and could get a real banana skin quarter final now.

Glaveys a decent team, semi-finalists last year and close to reaching the final, plenty of senior,U20 county experience in their ranks and managed by Iain Daly who was coach alongside Anthony Cunningham in Roscommon 2019 Connacht success when both Galway and Mayo was beaten away."
The heavy money was down on Glaveys at 12/1

Smashing game.. Oran seemed to have run out of steam.. hard to see Pearses being co. champions this year.
