U17s in All Ireland Quarter final action tomorrow in Ennis at 6:30pm. Kerry are around the same level as Mayo and we were competitive against them two weeks ago in the Hyde Park, then as in this game we'll need to be clinical on whatever goal chances that comes our way. Team won't be published until tomorrow best of luck the young rossies make it another happy memory in Cusack Park Ennis.

Very disappointed for the Roscommon U17s tonight, didn't do themselves justice at all on the day and Kerry punished us big time. Can look back on a very competitive Connacht campaign and plenty of talented players on that Roscommon panel and with the right development they can go on to be fine senior players for their clubs or county team in the years ahead.

They will be very disappointed with themselves. So many basic errors. Got killed on some of the kick outs no more than the seniors last week. Mayo thrashed Cork as well.

It might be overly simplistic but when a team presses up aggressively on your kick outs, what is the problem with just going long and get bodies in there to give you the best chance of winning it. Noticed with the seniors last week and the minors today when we were forced long it always seems like the opposition had 1-2 extra men competing for the ball compared to us.

Probably all taking up preplanned positions?
Hard on the lads today, hopefully they can put it behind them.
At 6-1 we missed 2 scoreable frees and missed another effort from play.
We seemed to fold after that.

Thanks to players and management for all their work and efforts.
Pity it gad to end so badly but they gave us a good 2 months along tgecway.

Shocking performance. I had hoped the days of Roscommon underage teams getting hammered like that were over. Very hard to understand. We were competitive with Mayo in both games in Connacht. Agree kick outs a real problem as with the seniors last week. As analyser said, some of those players will go on to have better days but you would have to question the mental attitude of Roscommon teams. Shows the huge achievement of 2006 against Kerry at the same venue. Fergal O'Donnell is a big loss to management in Roscommon and we need him back on the sideline asap.

Set up poorly defensively and you will get hammered regardless of the grade. Harder to understand I suppose for that Roscommon minor team as they defended well against Both Galway and a good Mayo team. Did management change things up and it back fired? Cork,Longford was also hammered and I wonder with some underage teams do they think once they are finished with their provincial championship do they have the same interest and focus on the All Ireland series?

Watched the two games in Ennis today and they were truly shocking. Mayo and Kerry so much better you'd think they were a different age group. Roscommon were the usual mix of a few bright sparks and space fillers. Letting Kerry play around with possession until they got into scoring position with ease was hard to watch. There seemed to be no plan B once Kerry started to win our kickouts. We just didn't seem to be able to get possession at all from breaking balls in that first half. That's down to a lack of sharpness probably because most training drills nowadays is all about not loosing possession and going through the motions. The U20s showed a bit of adventure this year and it brought them some success but the seniors have the same mentally as was shown by the minors. I still can't see any benefits of keeping minor at U17 as lads need another year to mature before been exposed to beating like Roscommon and Cork got today. Roll on next weekend and maybe we might get a result that will prolong our season for another while. At this moment I don't see us achieving anything in the foreseeable future.

Felt sorry for the minors yesterday against Kerry. It was obvious that one team was well prepared where's the other was managed by team of coaches who have got three years as managing the different minors teams and have failed to make any progress with these teams. This team was badly prepared as its was clear to me from going to all the games that they didnt learn where the weaknesses were and didn't put a plan to in place to rectify them. Another question were the best u17 players selected this year by this management team? it's debatable that it was the case.
Roscommon underage teams will NOT progress until we have top quality coaches & managers in places, people that have the ability and wisdom to select the best players and coach them to the required level. We need management teams that can instill or put the resources together to develop the players mental strength to move forward , this is a major failing on all Roscommon Underage teams. These minor lads gave it their all for the county and deserve to be guide by better leadership.

Only the manager has been the same the last three years the coaches has been changed up and this year included a few coaches that was involved with All Ireland minor winning team in 2006. We went from winning one match a shield final against Leitrim in 2022 to reaching the last eight this year so that is progress.

We already played a full strength Kerry in a challenge this year and played them last year at U16 level and were competitive against them. Mayo and Kerry would be on pair in standard and we were competitive against them in the Connacht final two weeks ago and we beat Galway twice on route to that final which is never easily done. Yesterday was very poor and game went away from us earlier and that can happen at underage level take the U17s for example in 2018 whom shipped some heavy defeats also but recovered and a lot of those lads bounced back to play in U20 All Ireland final three years later and unlucky not to win that final.

Some here a bit too harsh on what is 15 to 17 year olds and at that age players are known to be unpredictable and inconsistent. Yes it went very badly yesterday but Roscommon was the 2nd best in Connacht this year only 2nd to Mayo who are All Ireland contender and deemed to be one of their best minor teams for years and the young rossies more than held their own in the Connacht final against them.

It's very quiet here so far for the build up to the match on Saturday. Maybe it sums up a lot of people's attitude to this format. I for one are looking forward to it. I think we've been getting better bit by bit each match we played. Any word on Enda? Would be great if he was available however, I hope he's not rushed back and played out of desperation. I think we can win by 5 or 6 points Saturday evening. We just need to start letting the hair down a bit and play with the shackles off. Lots of positives to be taken from the Mayo game. I'd like to see Ultan and Keith Doyle start in midfield. If Enda is fit have him play a roving game. Let him float around the park and drive at the Cavan defense when the opportunity arises. I don't think Tadhg is a starter anymore. Could be aleffective coming in to see out a game. Anyway, best of luck to the lads and hopefully a good win to celebrate Saturday evening. Let's hope there's a big Rossie crowd to cheer the lads on. Ros Comáin abú

We've had our 2 warm up games now it's the real pinnacle of the Season.
Well need a 70+ minutes high level performance to get through.
And then hope we have the fitness levels to do the same a week later.
Tough going....but that's the level and we want to stay at that level.

Looking forward to Saturdays game - promised to be showery in Longford Saturday so bring the umbrella if heading for the Terrace. Cavan will no doubt go out all guns blazing - similar to their 1st Ulster Championship game. Hopefully Roscommon can manage the game throughout, we have the better team overall and should see the game out by 4 or 5 points but games like this can really go either way when the pressure comes on. My team for Saturday would be below (Enda comes in if fit but not looking likely):

Conor Carroll, Davy Murray, Brian Stack, Niall Higgins, Eoin mcCormack, Robbie Dolan, Niall Daly, Ultan Harney, Keith Doyle, Ruahri Fallon, Donie Smith, Ciarain Lennon, Diamuid Murtagh, Conor Cox, Daire Cregg.

I think a change is needed in the middle - I dont think Tadhg is up to the challenge in a game like this and think Doyle and Harney are the better footballing options while also having some height and fielding ability.

1. Conor Carroll

2. Davy Murray 3. Niall Higgins 4. Paddy Gavin

5. Ruahri Fallon 6. Brian Stack 7. Eoin Mccormack

8. Keith Doyle 9. Tadgh O Rourke

10. Enda Smith (think he will play) 11. Daire Cregg 12. Ultan Harney

13. Diarmuid Murtagh 14. Donie Smith 15. Conor Cox

Time to throw off the shackles and go at Cavan. I feel Brian stack needs to play out the field and we need to give youth a shot. Niall Higgins been the find of the year big strong physical lets test him. If cathal heneghan can play i would start him and move Ultan to midfield and take Tadgh out. Paddy gavin was a anxious decision i would but eoin mccormack to corner back and start niall or ronan daly on the wing also an option. Just know we need to up the pace we are playing at

It's very understanable that the build up is very low key, as we have one win all year and fans are after watching 6 defeats on the trot, 3 of them in championship. Hopefully that will be arrested on Saturday. Draw a line under what's gone before and start afresh this weekend. If nothing else push on and give a Paddy Joe a good retirement present!

Don't know how this Saturday will go. To be honest I'm a bit nervous because confidence has to be low after a very poor league and championship so far. Cavan will be right up for this game lads and they will fully believe they can beat us. Il be interested to see the team selection. It will probably be similar to Dublin mayo selection. Conor hand probably won't start but he's a young lad with a bright future ahead of him. Does Lennon deserve a start again? I'd be making a couple of changes. Doyle should start and Harney if fit.

McCormick is the only player able to drive us forward so he would have to stay in halfback line

No matter who starts we have to hit the ground running and go for it from the start with intensity.
A loss here and Davy will be gone.
