I was just thinking about the quality of the championships so far, and while a gulf is developing in some grades, it's fair to say the overall standard is poor.

One thing I have noticed is that a lot of teams tend to ape each other. Playing a sweeper is still a thing, but most teams that play that tactic, don't really have the fluidity to allow players push forward, create space elsewhere, attack kick-outs or anything like that. There is a lot more nuance to that system, but most teams, from what I have seen, aren't coached adequately enough for it aside from having the extra body back. Off the top of my head, I can name at least four teams across the grades that play a "plus one" and all of them are at the danger-end of the table.

Another thing I have seen creep into the modern game, and I don't want to sound like an old man yelling at a cloud, is fellas giving it the big one after scoring a point. Mass cheering from management etc when a turnover is forced or the ball goes out for a sideline at non-crucial moments of the game. I seen one fella last week letting a roar, fist in the air, for scoring a point in the first half, yet his team completely faded in the second half and went on to lose.

It's gone a bit too.....serious.

Not there yet but I will wait judgement. The one thing I did find odd was one of the reasons they didn't do it was because of the weather but its on the bad weather weekends that its needed most.
Regardless, attendances are down in football and that reflects the low ebb that its at in the supporters minds hopefully if the weather is better this weekend we could see a bit better attendance this weekend. You would have to think the pick would be the double header in Bellefield on Sunday.

I think the issue was the possibility of equipment getting damaged in venues like Bellefield and Buffers Alley. Not an issue in Wexford Park which was hosting u13 county finals over the weekend. I did wonder if a game isn't covered live could a willing club show it on there social media pages like what happened during covid lockdowns, obviously not the same quality of production etc. but still would be appreciated by people abroad etc.

As regards no streaming on account of weather last weekend - can understand it myself. Don't know if you've ever actually had a look at them streaming and seen the equipment they use, but it involves two or three computers as well as the camera. There's very little shelter in Bellefield or Monamolin (where last Sunday's games were) when compared to Wexford Park, and the sort of heavy rain that was forecast could completely ruin that equipment, so can understand it myself.

Previews ahead of moving weekend in the championship:

Kilanerin vs. Starlights: Kilanerin suffered a reality check against Crossabeg last week, and my doubts about their defence especially came to the surface. Niall Hughes hobbling off too is a blow. The thing is, Starlights normally dominant midfield haven't caught fire yet at all, and they don't seem at the same level that they have been in recent years. If Kilanerin can keep Pepper in check, they have a chance, as I feel Starlights may have better man-markers to contain Kilanerin's danger-men. Starlights need to win more, and tip them to just shade it.

Crossabeg vs. St.Martin's: before a ball was kicked, most observers would have assumed that it'd be Crossabeg in desperate need for a win here. But they have arguably been the team of the championship given the manner of their two wins to date and considering they are new to the grade. St.Martin's scoring returns wouldn't win many games in intermediate nevermind give them a chance in senior, and they really need to address their slump. Paudie Foley has finally gone on his travels, and he will be a big loss, but I just feel the momentum is with Crossabeg and think their fairytale season will continue.

St.Anne's vs. Gusserane: fair play to Gusserane, they have got on with the task at hand despite missing a slew of important players and are now on the cusp of the knock-out stages again. It was only a slow-start against Kilanerin that had them in a spot of bother to begin with. Rossiter has taken up the mantle as the top marksman in the county, was the top scorer last year and is already top of the charts again with 2-17. Kelly is a steady presence for St.Anne's too, he mightn't possess the same goal threat as Rossiter, but he's as accurate as anyone from his hands. The vagrancies of Group A is such that it's possible that a team could finish on 4 points and not reach the QF's, and a draw here could suit both parties. Draw

St.James vs. Bunclody: HWH have really suffered from second-season syndrome so far. While they were generally hard to break down in the first two games, even that aspect of their game came a cropper the last day when Shels hit 0-21 in terrible conditions. They don't really have punch up front either, although will probably turn this into a dogfight. St.James have gone about their business in spite of KOG being below his best. O'Hanlon has been their main man in their two wins, and they appear to have unearthed a couple of new faces up front. Can't see anything other than a St.James win to confirm their quarter-final place.

Shelmaliers vs. Castletown: Shels are already through and may take the opportunity to rest a couple of lads. I wouldn't say they are overly concerned about their seeding. Castletown grinded out a win vs Bunclody, their excellence against Sarsfields wasn't reflected on the scoreboard but they were poor vs Glynn. They are the second lowest-scorers in their group and will presumably be without Brosnan again (who has hit 2-9 in two appearances). Wouldn't be surprised if it's a draw, but can't see beyond the defending champs.

Glynn vs. Sarsfields: the second important Wexford district derby of the weekend. A draw will suffice for Glynn, and they have shown that when they turn it on, they have the beatings of anyone. Consistency is their problem though. Sarsfields haven't been disgraced in any of their games, but still haven't looked like winning any of them either. Luke Murphy has been their big-plus for the year, as has the re-emergence of Roche. This is must-win territory as it'll mean they'll only need a draw against Bunclody on the final day (you never want to go into the final round needing a win). All form-lines point to a Glynn victory however.

I would agree with you on the last three but I think Kilanerin will bounce back - I am sure they were shell shocked after last weekend as they see themselves as contenders and were going well, they may or may not be contenders but aside from last weekend their general form was good - the loss of Hughes is big though.
I would go with the Annes although sometimes its easier to go with a draw when the Annes are playing as they are very hard to beat regardless of who they are playing. A team you would rarely bet against but neither a great conviction to bet in favor! But will go for them in this one.

I see Kilanerin has been awarded last weeks game against CB!
Also perhaps the lads that run the site could change the default when you click on competition tables to the code that is being played as the time now that we have the split season. Not a big deal but small things sometimes do count.

a few years ago it looked like the martins would dominate wexford huring and football at senior and under age , but it has not worked out that way , their senior teams are struggling, they not doing well at under age, struggling for number i hear at aome grades, whats gone wrong

It did look like that a few years ago but if you look at who they had then compared with who they were missing yesterday. Most of them medium/long term absentees:

Rory O Connor
Jack O Connor
Joe O Connor
Barry O Connor
Harry O Connor
Ben Maddock
Aaron Maddock
Willie Devereux

Short term -
Tomas Hayes
Joe Coleman
Luke Kavanagh
Mikey Coleman

There are probably a couple more I'm missing too

I wouldn't call a team that made the senior hurling final a team that is struggling. Especially considering the O'Connor brigade bar Jack missed the championship.

I'm not a fan of the Martins but as onfor listed all those injured/ travelling players, is it any wonder that they are plying well below par in football at the moment. In fact it's amazing that they got to the hurling final. No team can afford to be without that many of their star players.
Expect them to bounce back next year when the walking wounded and travelling brigade return.

Another good result for Crossabeg and could be dark horses. St Anne's are going about their business quietly aswell. I think once we hit the quarter final stage we will see improved quality games. St Martins will be good enough to stay up and with a game to spare they know they are in relegation and will probably rest lads for the final group game. I think Bunclody will go down but there game against Sarsfiekds will be very tight. I heard Lee Chin has returned aswell which might sway it for the Wexford town team next weekend

They were in a county final this year were they not? There was 5 teams in relegation last year, had they won the penalty shootout against Gorey would Gorey have been in crisis?

They didn't nearly go down, they comfortably stayed up, despite the bad system.
