While it is odd that the game is in Belfield, the crowd at the Offaly match means they could probably hold it in Patrick's Park and not fill it sadly."
Wexford Park is closed at the moment

Reading the reports from county bulletin updates:

Coach Education Delivery of club-based formal coach education and informal coaching workshops on a continual basis.

Ongoing - to date in 2022, 480 coaches have completed Foundation and 30 coaches have completed Award 1. A program of coaching workshops will be launched in Jun-22. It was noted that the take up for Gaelic football courses is very low.

I would love to see our County Board name and shame here, and I would expect to see every football leaning club in the county not on the list.

I did not know that until I saw the monthly bulletin.

Yup, I've just posted this over in the Tailteann Cup thread:

Wexford Park is closed for ground and pitch works that are to take approximately six to eight weeks.

It was a choice of either:
(a) close in early May, maybe miss a Tailteann Cup match if we happened to have a home draw, but have the pitch back ready for the start of the club championships in late June/early July, or
(b) not close until the end of May in case we had a home Tailteann Cup match, then maybe not need it for that at all, and end up being without the pitch for the first three or four weeks of the club championships anyway.

Hobson's choice really, but they're the facts.

Think the right choice was made. I prefer Bellefield when there's a smaller crowd anyway. Better atmosphere for fans and players.

Was talking to a friend of mine who is a new club representative at co board meetings and he said that this weeks meeting was really excellent. There was a 45 minute presentation giving an update on the 5 year plan and a detailed update on plans for S and C, Hurling and a football review to be led by Philip Wallace. The chairman outlined that he has serious concerns at the standard of this years underage county teams and at how clubs who were traditionally strong at promoting football are now scaling back to prioritise hurling on a 70/30 basis. It was also outlined that the funding of teams at county level is pretty much 50/50 and can be accounted for in end of year accounts and that he wanted the review to come up with hard hitting recommendations for clubs and county board. It was also stated that there is little to no interest from club coaches in attending football courses and that recruiting coaches for football squads is very difficult. The bulletin is here http://www.wexfordgaa.ie/2022/05/wexford-gaa-bulletin-13/

Good to hear a football review is imminent.
When I moved to Wexford first and my chaps started playing the whole New Ross district was a hot bed of Wexford football and my chaps were playing teams from down that way who we could never beat in football. Places like Clongreen, Adamstown, Gusserane, Fethard, Horsewood, and so on. Hearing that there is little or no interest in club coaches attending football courses, and looking at the minor team tonight with 1 lad from the New Ross district and 1 more in the subs. What has happened to these clubs? Apathy? Indifference? These clubs made Wexford football in the 00s along with Mattie Forde.
I don't 100% know my districts but isn't Bannow Ballymitty the only New Ross club represented on the football team? Even Buffers Alley, a hurling strong hold, have a player on it?

That's good to hear in a way. Glad that the Board is promoting both codes equally. If the reason Football is lagging behind Hurling in the county is that more people prefer hurling or more importantly are more prepared to give their time to coaching or playing or watching hurling, adult or underage, then there is very little that can be done about this. At the end of the day once both codes are promoted and funded equally there's nothing the Board or clubs can do if less people want to take up football or prefer to concentrate on hurling. You can't force people to like a sport.

Keeper also Foley from Horeswood. But your point still stands. Guess it goes in cycles. Are there any selectors from the Ross District?

good win for them not that it matters one bit now, but its a reward for the efford they have put in, and they will get another game, always think its a major problem in the g a a [club and county] poor or teams that wont win anything are ignored, cast away, when there is every chance u will get 1 or 2 even 3 good siniors off it

Hard luck to the lads. Couldn't make it up but got listening to it on the radio. OK a few errors didn't help but it sounded like the lads gave it their best shot!

We battled hard and never gave up. We play attacking football which is always a positive. Can't fault the application. But....bringing on Nick Doyle with very little prior football in him at this level this year was dinosaur. And for the second game in a row a full-forward scored 1-5. No proaction.

Yea have to agree Beano, great game of attacking football, I would disagree with you regarding full forward. Why would you include his scores from frees, is it for dramatic affect. Do you think they should introduce Carty full back just for to appease you.

I wasn't suggesting that at all. My own opinion, and it's only an opinion, is that the two incumbents of our key defensive positions aren't suited for the role. Their skill-sets are better elsewhere. But Martin O'Connor's absence was huge in that regard.

Unlucky lads, a very enjoyable game. I really hope this group of (mostly young) players and management stick together because they are certainly moving in the right direction.
Great heart and spirit from the lads to fight back and almost bring it to extra time.
It was a pity that Deegan saw fit to give us a free late on, when the "advantage" would have had us through on goal.

Looked back on the goals and the first is one of those that could happen when there is quick ball, it just so happened it was unexpected and on our 45, the way was open in front of him as all the other Offaly players were spread out, it was one of those situations for the backs where either you go to the man and leave your man free, everyone did the former. The other two were disappointing as we had the players back behind the ball and its just that awareness seem to be missing, in fairness McManee's goal was brilliantly taken but the defense should have been far more aware to it. The second two were similar in that it wasn't quick breaking ball worked up the field but rather ball from the side, almost end line that they worked across while we had the bodies back.

In fairness I the team did far better than I expected given Offaly had some of their players back. It was a good game of football without much negativity in it. You could not fault the application showed by the lads however like yourself was shocked to see ND come onto the field. I know they try to mix it up a bit by switching Nolan and Hughes so the lads would be used to the high ball concept and we got a goal from it, but those are two mobile lads who contribute far more to the game.
Overall, I would have to say that the players are there to push on next year (although not sure Brosnan will be back) but looking how we were setup and defended at times their needs to be a change in the management team, not saying manager as it could also be the coaching staff we lack.

Poor year though in all fairness, yes a good result v Offaly the first day but not at the races otherwise.
I hope you will all be taking part in the upcoming football review. I will be, as an outsider involved with a club where football is largely 50-50.
But just like that football meeting that Liam Fardy (Vardy?) organised and nobody turned up, if people don't contribute and raise their issues the co. board think nobody cares.

Yes the age profile is encouraging. Cian Hughes coming on as probably the best prospect for a long while, but there are a good few others his age right behind him that have potential too. The best thing is that they will be given the chance as well.
