Tks for that, a great interview manily focused on times past. How times have changed on and off the pitch. Some amount of wild stories the man is a genuine legend and came across so well.

Surely there will be an update on the managers position one way or another shortly? One would have a feeling that it won't be as plain sailing for the current management as it appears it might. BigJoe14 (Meath) - Posts: 997 - 12/07/2024 11:47:05 2558529 Link 0 |
Devlin gone back to work with Louth underage, there goes a top coach we could've got if the price was right I'm sure. A coach is needed big time and Devlin was definitely one I saw in the mix but not anymore by the looks of it SillySimonsOpinion (Meath) - Posts: 61 - 16/07/2024 10:00:30 2559440 Link 0 |
Great initiative shown by Louth County Board with this appointment. Will yield long term benefits for them.

Seem's a strange decision as he was part of managemet team who walked away no so long ago. Once bitten?

It can't be surely. Will anyone turn up next year to see them if so? Last year versus Dublin and Kerry was the worst I've ever seen Meath play - there was no plan, no conviction and no belief.

The exact type of appointment Meath should, but won't, make. It's infuriating. Definition of insanity, doing the same thing and expecting different results.

There is only one acceptable outcome here. Anything less and we will drift further into the wilderness

Change is coming. The players survey was key.

At last CB meeting it was apparently said a review will be "completed shortly". If they needed an extra spur to try something new and radical they would do well to reflect on the '99 winners lining out for the Jubilee presentation in Croker this Sunday and ask themselves if they want another quarter century like the last one. so badly need an outside coach or two, unfortunatley the lads we have are not next nor near exprienced for the job, although id like to see stephen bray stay on with colm, colm as a front man, but coaching so nadly needed. dickie10 (UK) - Posts: 767 - 23/07/2024 22:40:35 2561093 Link 2 |
Interesting but not surprising. I'm glad the players appear to have spoken up. Heard that it wasn't the most joyous camp to be in. I think the simple fact is we have regressed since McEntee left. A Tailteann Cup win cannot be seen as progress because of the opposition involved (division 3 and 4 teams). I believe it could have served as a foundation to build upon though, but that foundation crumbled this year for sure. Time for change. It ultimately doesn't matter who the manager is if the coaching set up is wrong, and that's largely the crux of the issue. Counties like Louth have shown that if you can get the coaching aspect right, you will reap the rewards. hyperache (Meath) - Posts: 251 - 24/07/2024 12:05:43 2561197 Link 2 |
These are two separate issues. The overall elite pathways and coaching is not a senior manager issue and is a county board issue. The standard of coaching for the senior inter county very much is a senior manager issue because he picks the coaches (or atleast he should). It's the county boards job to increase the ceiling of the senior team through long term player development. It's the senior manager and management teams job to make sure you're hitting the ceiling of the current players right now and developing these current players for future success in the short term. That's where this management team have failed hugely and that is why I would be hoping to see change

Has anyone asked themselves if COR actually feels he needs or wants an additional coaching resource to work alongside him.? This could be the issue here. If he thinks he can do it as is, then that is a bigger problem, it could be said. A county board cant force a coach onto a Management team. Also, would COR actually listen to a new coach , or feel that he himself knows best.???? As is always the case - there is no I in TEAM..... Nothing in any of that a well prepared 3man interview panel cannot deal with .They will have listened to the managers report and his plans to improve coaching standards .Players report and in particular how they view training sessions for example. In simple the CB have to take full responsibility in dealing with this vital problem at this vital time.

It's fairly simple in my opinion. 1 COR is told he needs to bring in a proven coach He either does this himself or the CB will get one and put one in. If he can't or won't get one in then the CB know what they need to do. Blackspot09 (Meath) - Posts: 1003 - 25/07/2024 15:26:37 2561530 Link 2 |
I would suggest that the problem lies at the top. We had a proven coach in Garrigan last season, along with Eivers. Was it made known why they both left? Apologies if I've missed this. I simply cannot get away from the fact that we have managed to regress since McEntee left. I would give last year a pass as it was year 1 of the project but this year was unacceptable. Yes, as others have mentioned, the standard of football in the county in not good. The senior manager cannot do anything about that. However, I believe not enough is being done with the players that are there.
