Hopefully Saturday is the start of a positive year, the result wouldn't bother me too much but it's a performance and something to look forward to for the year ahead is the main thing in my eyes, last year was nothing short of a disgrace, same management so let's hope they have changed an awful lot(John McCarthy Joey Farrelly sean kelly colm coyle Mickey McDonnell Niall flynn and Shane supple), I believe the level of professionalism this year has gone through the roof a lot of it down to our afl man barry Horgan, Tyrone will be tough, one would assume they will play your typical northern football men behind ball and attack at pace and with numbers, so how we react to that will have a big outcome on the result in my opinion. 3 noteable Injuries that I know of are mark Coffey and Tomas Corbett both with acl injuries and won't partake this year at all, and adam mcdonnell with a bad ankle injury(not too sure how bad exactly but I heard at feis cup last week he might be needing surgery), my crack at the team would be this Meath112233 (Meath) - Posts: 38 - 09/02/2023 12:26:56 2457435 Link 1 |

Didn't get to the game yesterday with club games on, Heard a few bits and pieces.. Anyone at the game have anything to report? redracoon (Meath) - Posts: 57 - 12/02/2023 13:05:36 2457909 Link 0 |
Yes it was a good game of football, thought Meath were the better all round team. Billy Hogan was very good with his kickouts, didn't have much to do in fairness to him as Tyrone never really had any goal chances. Defence I thought were very good, solid & tight as I said Tyrone had no real goal chances, young Ennis had his hands full with Canavan but he is an exceptional talent and senior defences will have their work cut out trying to contain him, but in fairness to Ennis he stuck with him all game got help in the 2nd half when they doubled up on him. Conor & Jack in midfield played very well great work rate both of these lads. Forwards were hard working and always willing looking for the ball, but I just thought we were over depending on Eoghan Frayne to get the scores, he is a class act but if gets injured or if defences double up on him we could be in trouble. All in all a good performance and plenty to be positive about going forward to the Down and Antrim games in the coming weeks. FairRoyal71 (Meath) - Posts: 13 - 12/02/2023 19:21:23 2457964 Link 2 |
I couldn't make the game, would have liked too. Just wondering for your thoughts on Eoghan Frayne's performance? My feelings are he will be starting senior very soon but haven't seen him play in a while

Agree, I would say once the U20s is over I can see Frayne and possibly Gray been called into the senior set up. Frayne was very good yesterday. FairRoyal71 (Meath) - Posts: 13 - 12/02/2023 19:54:24 2457973 Link 1 |
I was there, decent performance from Meath and Eoghan Frayne was very good. Royalmeath2 (Meath) - Posts: 9 - 13/02/2023 11:36:33 2458039 Link 1 |

Didn't make it due to club game, had we a full team? Tyrone missing a few I would imagine to due mcrory cup final? Anyone bar the usual impressive? Meath112233 (Meath) - Posts: 38 - 13/02/2023 16:03:20 2458124 Link 0 |
Frayne is the stand out forward and in all honesty I'm not sure the others are ever going to be dynamic scorers, although there are some nice footballers there. Kinsella is another I rate very highly but he played inside with Frayne occupying 11 for the most part on Saturday. Moving forward I'd imagine you swap those two to give the inside line more presence and threat. Bowden, Corcoran, Stafford all bring a certain amount to the table but have flaws too. Sean Emmanuel apparently is still recovering from injury and only played a cameo in the game so you would think he would improve the side but again not a marksman as such. Very impressed with Kinlough and Gray as a pairing and John O' Regan was outstanding at 6 for Meath. Without doubt the game was made by Ruari Canavan for Tyrone though, in a game where all round meath appeared the superior side some of Canavans scores were outrageous and he single handedly earned Tyrone a draw in my eyes. I would agree with a lot you say, midfield Jack Kinlough and Gray the two starters, a few spots still up for grabs in the backs and forwards, the backs did well considering five are still under 20 next year, you couldn't judge Ennis on this game as he was marking the best forward in the country at that age, I thought O' Halloran was our best back and never wanting to criticise any player at this age, I would say your opinion on Sean O' Regan as been outstanding was a bit exaggerated as he did gift the ball back to Tyrone three times, he is also still a year younger and shows great potential to make it for Meath even at Senior. This was a really good display and follows another one against Cork a week before, McCarthy has this bunch playing better than he ever had in his years with most of them. There is real competition for places with subs impressing that came on and three other lads rested have played a schools game on Friday. I was impressed with the management as they took off Gray, Frayne & Kelly off for the last 15 minutes as they are still playing a college game per week. So early in the year and without wanting to build up too high expectations, the signs are positive and although Meath have been really poor at this grade for over 20 years, if key players can keep injury free, they have the makings of a team that could give the Leinster Championship a good lash. I would hold fire on making any judgement on this team based on this competition. They also had a good game against Dublin last year in the first round, and then imploded in the championship against them. However it does seem that a massive effort is being put into this group this year and it is a also a benefit that the championship is on a round robin basis this year. A lot of changes from the last day, Anyone else standout/impress? Heard Billy Hogan, Liam Kelly, Brian O'Reilly, Jack Kinlough and Sean Emmanuel showed well throughout the game. Are we lacking a scoring inside forward? lots of great playmaking forwards but seems we are just lacking a man who can turn his man and put up scores but at the same time 2-12 is a good number to be putting up. redracoon (Meath) - Posts: 57 - 19/02/2023 14:14:48 2459010 Link 0 |
