Senior Championship Match Predictions

Replying To Gaelforce69:  "Simonstown were extremely poor..? They never kicked a wide for the 1st 40 mins play,Lead 11-2 until they got 2 Black cards."
Obviously read reports Gaelforce69 and weren't at any games 2 weeks ago.

Group 1 probably the most competitive group.

Moynalvey lost P.Harnan and it changed the balance. If he stayed on the field i'm not saying they would have won the game but Their midfield was dominated from there on. Summerhills finish was impressive. Moynalvey vs Curragha draw match

Curragha were blown away by a really strong Tones forward line and for me their 13,14,15 are as strong as in the championship. Curragha missing some key players but are really well organised. Just bet by a tones system on the day. Goals win games and i think every team in Meath will struggle against this full forward line. Forward Lines on top in the tones vs Summerhill game. Tones by 1/2

Group 2

Seneschalstown result the surprise of round 1. Not because they don't have the players but because of their form coming into it. A Championship team that love the summer ball, put them down at your peril, a complacent Na Fianna came undone. Ashbourne will need to be on guard here. Draw match

Na Fianna have all the talent to beat an aging O Mahonys team. Who at the minute look to be punch drunk. Once the kingpins and a team that has brought so much great football to the table over the past decade. Going backwards and could find themselves the wrong end of this group. Na Fianna by 4/5

Group 3

A Group that only has 1 winner, Ratoath development in S&C is miles ahead. Speed is a wnner all day against Skryne who too have plenty of it around the field but looked to lack leaders against Simonstown 2 weeks ago. If that changes i still think Ratoath have too much for them but local derby can cause the blood to boil over. Think the game will be close for much of it but Ratoath to pull away and this will be 5 to 6 point win to Ratoath.

Complacency the Key here for Simonstown here. If they under estimate Nobber they will find them selves in a dog fight which for the past 2 years is not there in Simonstown, seem to shy away from the challenge when it gets sticky. Nobber look strong down the middle. The loss of Kane is huge and looking at Conlon at 6 going forward looks good but could get exposed going back O Rourke inside defo a plus though, great to see him back. Simonstown just to get over the line in Castletown, love to see a shock here.

Group 4

Dunboyne vs Kells only game worth taking about in this group the other game only a set up for a taem that will not be in Senior ranks next year, probably St Colmcilles.

Dunboyne Defensively look really good and they have strength in numbers with an excellent second team too. Kells probably the last chance salon with this team and i don't think anybody in the county would begrudge them. Have watched them for the past 5 years and Lar Wall to his credit plays a lovely brand of football. Just missing that last hurdle but who knows this year with the short season. Its the hardest call of the weekend but going to edge Kells by 1

Replying To BigJoe14:  "Scorelines can be deceptive. From viewing the match in full on TG4 they didn't look like a team in good condition. There game against Ratoath will tell a lot, presuming both teams win this weekend, that game is effectively a quarter final."
Christ I would be keen to see what Simonstown would be like fit then. Does not say much about Skyrne . I mean it seemed to me from watching it that running after 15 with only 13 for ten minutes took a toll. But ye got to say they were very good first 30-40 minutes. Had O Rourke scored what was a sure fire goal chance it would have been 1-11 to 0-2. Teams are going to strip fitter for R2 anyway.

I totally agree with you,I do think they will get fitter and better after playing there 1st competitive championship game,Yes it will be a mouthwatering clash in round 3,this is 1st time Ratoath and Simonstown have played in the Senior Championship and will tell a lot going further.

Ratoath will take Simonstown without too much stress, Simonstown very poor, Skryne were shocking but if they had a free taker

Go through the quality players Simonstown have lost in past few years, now a very average side i think

Not a bold statement at all. It's a completely accurate statement. Ratoath's athleticism, pace and skill is a million miles ahead of the majority of team's in the Senior champ, including Simonstown.

Anyway the Simonstown Skryne game on TG4 was a poor reflection on the Senior championship in Meath. It looked like Junior football compared to recent Dublin club games and the Corofin game that was on before it.

Well well well. Maybe I've been proved right about Simonstown after all!

Fair play to Nobber. Felt that the result against Ratoath didn't do their performance justice and they seem to have proven that this evening. Seems like Simonstown couldn't handle Morris and Meade.

Went along to watch Nobber and Simonstown (parked on road and slipped in side gate) Fair play to Nobber who went at it from the word go and where really out on their feet in last 10 but had enough done to win the game against a Simonstown team that appeared to think all they had to do was turn up and seemed to be waiting for when the Nobber challenge would wilt and they would take over and win game. Not so.

Sean Meade was excellent throughout and by far the best forward on view and got great support from Morris and the other Nobber hard working forwards. They seemed to have a shoot on sight policy and this led to a right few 1st half wides as they should have been 4 or 5 up at the break.

Simonstown's Kearney and McGrath put up a good 1st half showing but the Nobber backs where tenacious and those two had quiet 2nd halves. STG did not seem to know what to do with Shane ORourke other than lump a few high balls in and bring him in and out to midfield and the game passed him by. Sean Tobin kept his team in the game with kicking Four or maybe five 45s but again they seemed to think the game would turn their way but Nobber refused to let it happen as the Simonstown subs made no impact.

The big bearded Nobber sub made a great impact when needed as the other Meade lad at half back had a powerful game as their goalie was brilliant saving 3 certain goals and using his kickout superbly in a display as good as you ever seen. A dvd of this game and his performance would be a must for any goal keeping coach.

What does it all mean Nobber still have to get a result against Skryne or this great prefomance counts for nothing other than didn't we do well. Simonstown are as good as out of the Championship as they will have to beat Ratoath and hope Skryne beat Nobber as otherwise Ratoath's score differance will see them top as I expect as most people Ratoath to beat Skryne tonight. Anyway the Simonstown team that played last night have no buisness in knock out stages.

Its so disappointing that only one team gets out of group in what was a ridiculous decision by County Board as if two came out that would make the Nobber effort and result real meaning

With all due respect, with the time frame that they have this season, what choice did the CB have? The initial plan was to have the top two go through to the quarter finals. With Covid and the window for club games so short, that isn't possible this season.

What a difference a couple of weeks makes. Nobber were touted by some as the worst ever team to come up from intermediate after their first game.

'With all due respect'!! other counties were well able to have a quarter final, Mayo being an example of 16 teams. An extra week is needed to decide who goes down so that could have been quarter final weekend. Not sure who the CB were trying to facilitate as that decision does little to improve our club football.

Dead right Kildare also planned to have quarters also in 4x4 sixteen team championship. Government moved starting date forward 2 weeks our crowd played two Micky mouse league games. Remember our leagues played without county players so could have went with 1 and played other two after championship is over. Poor decision on a footballing and financial basis at the time. Finance doesn't come in now with so few at games.

I think longwood will be hard beat as the worst intermediate team to come up.

Fair play nobber

Dreadful game is Navan today, Tones played most of the day with 1 man advantage and 2 for 10 mins. I have never seen a more negative performance 14 men behind the ball with 2 man advantage and Summerhill playing a sweeper. Dreadful stuff, as they say you get what you deserve and they deserved what they got.

Replying To glenny:  "Moynalvey V Curraha . Two Harnans out injured so big test for Moynalvey who could have beaten Summerhill only for those injuries. This even things up but Moynalvey should have enough.

Tones v Summerhill . Winner take all with Summerhill to progress and leave Round 3 in this group a brace of dead rubbers

Seneschalstown V Don/Ash. Another dead group with Don/Ash winning and making the semis

O Mahonys V Na Fianna . Two teams going nowhere with loser in relegation Think Navan might sneak it

Nobber V Simonstown . Simonstown

Skyrne v Ratoath - Ratoath to win and set up a do or die and leave Skryne with the easy enough task of putting Nobber in Relegation

Dunshaughlin V Colmcilles . Cills to win and avoid relegation

Kells V Dunboyne . Kells to suprise in what is another bunch of round 3 dead rubbers"
6 out of 8 not so bad
