Senior Championship Match Predictions

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Round 2 will really decide most matters in SFC as the notion that 4 team groups would be more competitive than 6 teams group is blown away. Awful pity two teams dont come out of groups to keep the interest up.

Seneschalstown v Don/Ash winner will top group and qualify..Omahonys v Na Fianna loser to relegation semi
Moynalvey v Carraha loser to relegation, Summerhill v Tones winner to semis
Kells v Dunboyne winner to semi.. St Colmcilles v Dunshaughlin loser to relegation
All 3 to be decided

Nobber v Simonstown.. Ratoath v Skryne This group last round will decide all so 3rd round be interesting as Ratoath and Simonstown battle to top group and Skryne and Nobber try to avoid relegation semi

Ratoath have plenty of good young lads - maybe people should focus on who is playing rather than who isn't!

Yep it is a pity that 2 teams do not come out of group but anyways that the way it is this year

I think Seneschalstown could be a surprise in this group if Brian Sheridan can compete with Bryan Menton from Ashbourne so Seneschalstown to barely win

O Mahony's Versus Na Fianna will be tight with Na Fianna winning this one ( as they seemed to be missing a lot of Seniors last day out and should have them back )

Moynalvey should have too much firepower for Curraha although not sure if Harnan out and this could have a bearing on result but Moynalvey win

Summerhill versus Tones . Summerhill to win with Frayne realising his potential this year at senior level for Summerhill

Kells V Dunboyne could be very close for long stages with Dunboyne edging it with playing a more Positive fooball
Can't call Cilles V Dunsahaughlin Maybe Cilles with Conlon

Simonstown v Nobber - Simonstown win

Ratoath v Skyrne - Ratoath win

If Brian Sheridan can compete with Bryan Menton is a bit like saying if Graham Reilly can match Trevor Giles.

Have to agree Bear10. Group B has all the lower ranked teams in it so the team that tops that Group are going to away up against it in a semi final anyway.

Senior Chamionship - R2

Moynalvey V Curraha . Moynalvey got few lads injured I heard so this could be tighter but still Moynalvey to win

Tones v Summerhill . This will good game but ye have to fancy Summerhill after digging out win over Moynalvey

Seneschalstown V Don/Ash. Have to go with Ashbourne. There better I feel than Seneschalstown

O Mahonys V Na Fianna . Can't call this probably might go for a draw

Nobber V Simonstown . Castlestown wont be easy but Simonstown were impressive especially first half last day. They should setup mouth watering clash with Ratoath in Round 3

Skyrne v Ratoath - Ratoath to win but perhaps Scrin may give them a game especially when it's in Dunshaughlin

Dunshaughlin V Colmcilles . Disappointed with Dunshaughlin the last day. Out played at times by Dunboyne. Cilles played very well V Kells but they just don't go for the jugular with teams when they had Kells nailed. Hard to call probably tip the Cilles but only if right one turns up

Kells V Dunboyne . It's losers good bye in this game. This should be fiery. Dunshaughlin were poor but Dunboyne beat them comfortably , Cilles are hardly contenders and Kells struggled to beat them so on form I have to go with Dunboyne but Kells could just come roaring out too. Dunboyne by a few

Hi Bear10

I think Don/Ash will come out of what is a poor Group. I think Kells sting is starting to wilt and I think Dunboyne can make the semi albeit they only beat a very poor Dunshaughlin outfit.

Don/Ash V Dunboyne

The big game for me is Ratoath V Simonstown. I felt Ratoath were impressive albeit against Nobber who started brightly and gave them a game for 20 mins but then wilted away. Ratoath play nice football and have some very talented players. I watched Simonstown on the TG4. I thought they were very impressive especially in first 30 mins. It was very interesting how they set up and they looked real sharp on the counter. They are very well drilled. Look Ratoath are the Championship favourites but there is something about that Simonstown outfit that makes me think if there is a team to take Ratoath down it will be them. I am going to be brave and pick Simonstown

Summerhill fought to beat Moynalvey. Still think they made hard work of Moynalvey so not so sure how good Summerhill are. Dalton and Geraghty are big losses. Tones beat Curraha well but not so sure that form stacks up either. Probably go with Summerhill

Simonstown V Summerhill

Any reason as to why Joe Sheridan wasn't in the Seneschalstown squad at the weekend?

I heard he was in hiding due to the ten year anniversary of Goal of the Gods due to a sacrifice planned for somewhere in Annagassin or the likes.A druid from the hill of Tara has him protected now so he may be back in action some time soon.

Whats the predictions for the weekend lads?

Moynalvey V Curraha . Two Harnans out injured so big test for Moynalvey who could have beaten Summerhill only for those injuries. This even things up but Moynalvey should have enough.

Tones v Summerhill . Winner take all with Summerhill to progress and leave Round 3 in this group a brace of dead rubbers

Seneschalstown V Don/Ash. Another dead group with Don/Ash winning and making the semis

O Mahonys V Na Fianna . Two teams going nowhere with loser in relegation Think Navan might sneak it

Nobber V Simonstown . Simonstown

Skyrne v Ratoath - Ratoath to win and set up a do or die and leave Skryne with the easy enough task of putting Nobber in Relegation

Dunshaughlin V Colmcilles . Cills to win and avoid relegation

Kells V Dunboyne . Kells to suprise in what is another bunch of round 3 dead rubbers

Seneschalstown v Donaghmore - If The Furze play like they did versus Na Fianna and with Big Joe Back as an extra option they might take Ashbourne but Ashbourne will offer a much more stiffer Test than Na Fianna . Ashbourne just about #

Nobber v Simonstown - Simonstown will have too much power & pace for Nobber But Nobber will go hard at them for sure - Simonstown by 5 or 6

Moynalvey v Curraha - all the makings of a Draw

O Mahonys V Na Fianna. _ alhough Na Fianna were Blown out of the water By Seneschalstown last round they did come backand responded well late on . They have never beaten Mahonys in Championship. - First time - Na Fianna by 4

Dunshaughlin v Cilles - Dunshaughlin will win this one by 2 or 3

Tone s v The Hill - Interesting fixture - I fancy Tones in this one although the Hill will be favourites . Tones By one

Skyrne v Ratoath - Has to be Ratoath ny 5

Gael Colmcille v Dunboyne - Best Tie of the round - Helter Skelter , Maybe Kells Could be very Close. on Paper you would say Dunboyne so Dunboyne by just 1

Moynalvey V Curraha: Two teams that will be evenly matched and should be a close encounter. Moynalvey fell apart against Summerhill and really should have got a draw at the worst case. Curraha by all accounts were poor against Wolfe Tones. The winner here will probably be safe from relegation but the loser will be in trouble. Verdict - Draw

Tones v Summerhill: Tones result against Curraha flattered them and are still not a team that could you would say are contenders to seriously win a championship. However they are capable of getting big results against more fancied opposition like they did against Dunboyne last year and Ratoath two years ago. Summerhill are weaker than last year but still have a very strong forward line with Barry Dardis and Conor Frayne. This will be close again but Summerhill should get through if the two Ryan's can nullify Fiachra Ward and Thomas O'Reilly. Verdict - Summerhill

Seneschalstown V Don/Ash:
Don/Ash were in complete control against O'Mahonys from start to finish but wasted a lot of scoring chances. If they correct that, there defense is a solid unit that can lockdown a young and small Seneschalstown forward line. Seneschalstown will be confident and are improving again but I think Ashbourne have more experience down the spine of their team to get through this one. Verdict: Don/Ash

O Mahonys V Na Fianna: Two teams who have spliped back over the last few years. Na Fianna have a lot of good new young players mixed with experience but it still doesn't seem to be working yet. O'Mahonys are still relying on players in their late 30's. Both were disappointing first day out but if Shane Walsh and Ethan Devine perform they should win this one. Verdict: Na Fianna

Nobber V Simonstown: Nobber took an awful beating against Ratoath and they simply don't have enough quality players to compete at Senior level. However they are a very honest hard working team that won't stop for sixty minutes and this will keep this game more competitive than the ratoath game. Simonstown were extremely poor from viewing their game with Skryne and look like a side that are not that fit. Shane O'Rourke carried them by Skryne and will be the main threat here again. Simonstown to win but only by 5 or 6 points. Verdict: Simonstown

Skyrne v Ratoath:
Ratoath will have learned nothing from the Nobber game and I expect that they will have an easy task here again. Skryne are in transition with a lot of new young players coming through this year without Paddy O'Rourke. This will be tighter than last year's quarter final but Ratoath still to have to much here. Verdict: Ratoath

Dunshaughlin V Colmcilles:
Two teams who both lost their opening game but St Colmcilles left with more credit in the bank than Dunshaughlin did from their defeat. St Colmcilles are extremely reliant on James Conlon and this will make or break this game. If Dunshauglin keep him quite they will probably win, if not Cilles could get the two points. Verdict - Dunshaughlin

Kells V Dunboyne:
The tie of the round. Whoever wins this will top the group and go through to the Semi. Dunboyne are without Robbie McCarthy and he is a massive loss to them. Two well conditioned teams that will go toe to toe but I think Dunboyne have more man markers to nullify Mattinoe and O'Hanlon and also they have energy around the middle to match and better kells. Verdict: Dunboyne

Scorelines can be deceptive. From viewing the match in full on TG4 they didn't look like a team in good condition. There game against Ratoath will tell a lot, presuming both teams win this weekend, that game is effectively a quarter final.
