Con O’Callaghan struck 3-6 as Cuala got their Dublin senior football championship defence off to a winning start yesterday by defeating Raheny on a 4-16 to 0-14 scoreline at Parnell Park.

The All-Ireland club champions struck goals via Con O’Callaghan and Niall O’Callaghan to lead by 2-6 to 0-7 against a Raheny which were minus the services of former county midfielder Brian Fenton.

The Dalkey side increased their advantage to nine after the change of ends ahead of frees from former Mayo goalkeeper Rob Hennelly and a Jack Fagan point reducing the arrears for the men from St Anne’s Park.

Those scores would be wiped out by a Niall O’Callaghan two-pointer being backed up by a Peadar Ó Cofaigh Byrne, and the closing stages would see Dublin ace Con O’Callaghan hammering past Hennelly twice more to round off a 14-point victory for the holders.
