David Clifford is hoping Jack O’Connor will remain on as Kerry football manager in 2026.
O’Connor hinted at stepping down after delivering his fifth All-Ireland SFC title to the Kingdom last month, but Clifford believes he has a lot more to offer.
“I haven’t really been talking to him that much in the last few weeks, it’s just been busy, but it would be great if we could keep it the same way as it was for last year,” the Kerry sharpshooter told reporters after been named the PwC GAA/GPA Player of the Month for July/August.
“I thought we had a brilliant set-up, so hopefully they’ll figure things out.”
Clifford also hailed the impact of coach Cian O’Neill, who O’Connor drafted into his backroom team this year.
“He was brilliant,” the Fossa clubman continued.
“He was a fresh voice. He ran the training sessions. Just good. Nice, forward thinking. The fact that there were the new rules, everything was fresh.
“It was massively enjoyable. I thought we responded well to each other as a group. I thought Cian got on well with the group and I thought we got on well with him. He was brilliant.”
