Lidl National Football League Division 1
Kerry v Armagh; Austin Stack Park, Tralee, 1.30pm – Live on TG4
Life after Louise Ní Mhuircheartaigh begins for Kerry with a home tie against Armagh in Tralee.
This fixture will revive memories of the 2024 Lidl NFL Division 1 Final between the counties, won by Armagh at Croke Park.
The tables were turned, however, when the sides met again in the TG4 All-Ireland semi-finals, before Kerry went on to land the Brendan Martin Cup for the first time in 31 years.
So it’s the TG4 All-Ireland champions against the Lidl NFL Division 1 holders in a glamour 2025 opener at Austin Stack Park, live on TG4.
New Kerry boss Mark Bourke, who’s taken over the reins from Darragh Long and Declan Quill, has named nine of the team that started against Galway at Croke Park last August.

Armagh have also gone strong for this seasonal opener. The Orchard County have Darnell Parkinson and Joe Feeney as joint managers for 2025 and they’ve named eight players who lined out against Kerry in the 2024 TG4 All-Ireland semi-final, namely goalkeeper Anna Carr, Cait Towe, Emily Druse, captain Lauren McConville, Niamh Coleman, Caroline O’Hanlon, Aoife McCoy and Eve Lavery.

Niamh Donlon, Leah Caffrey, Martha Byrne and Niamh Hetherton are the only starting survivors from the 2024 TG4 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final defeat to Galway, while Jess Tobin, Chloe Darby, Grace Kós and Annabelle Timothy also featured off bench in that game.
Goalkeeper Katie Moran Tighe and Sophie McIntyre are set for senior inter-county debuts as Carla Rowe, injured for the shock Galway defeat, captains the side.
Saoirse Lally, captain Danielle Caldwell, Kathryn Sullivan, Erin Murray, Aoife Geraghty, Lucy Wallace, Annie Gough, Ciara Durkin, Maria Cannon and Sinead Walsh all started in Mayo’s last competitive outing – the 2024 TG4 All-Ireland SFC quarter-final defeat to Armagh.

Cork’s 21-year stint in the top flight came to an end last year when the Rebels were relegated.
The aim now for new boss Joe Carroll and his charges is to bounce straight back at the first attempt.
That quest begins on Saturday at Páirc Uí Rinn with a home tie against Westmeath.
The visitors finished comfortably in a mid-table position in 2024 but will hope for a promotion push this time.

Meath were Division 1 champions as recently as 2022 and will hope for another good campaign after performing well last year, winning four of their seven games.
The Royals got off to a flying start but tailed away in the second half of the campaign, and will aim for more consistency this time.
For Tyrone, the name of the game is consolidation and they’ll look for a good start to 2025, having lost out to Leitrim in the 2024 TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate Final.

Waterford have flirted with relegation in recent times but always seem to find the right formula to stay alive.
The Déise will hope to do so again but they face a tricky opener against Kildare, who were promoted last year and crowned Division 2 champions.
Kildare found the going tough in the senior championship ranks in 2024 but they’ll have gained plenty of experience and will hope to put that to good use.
This fixture pits new Kildare boss Pat Sullivan against his home county and the team he managed last year.
Former Kerry goalkeeper Tomás Mac an tSaoir will guide the fortunes of Waterford in 2025.

Despite contesting the 2024 TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship Final, Galway will ply their trade in Division 2 this year, having suffered relegation last season.
The Tribeswomen had been a top flight outfit since winning the Division 2 crown in 2014 and now they’ll have to work their way back to Division 1.
Galway name seven of the team that started the 2024 TG4 All-Ireland Senior Final for this League opener, including captain Kate Geraghty.

Limerick finished third in the Division 4 standings last year but with the top four contesting semi-finals, the Shannonsiders gained promotion after defeating Leitrim in a last-four tie.
Carlow finished as Division 4 champions but Limerick had done enough to book a slot in the third tier.
Limerick’s last competitive outing was a TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship semi-final loss to eventual champions Fermanagh, a two-point reverse.
Down missed out on Division 2 football by a single point last year and a talented outfit will feel that another promotion push is on the cards.
Limerick: C Bateman; S Dillon, Y Lee, R Browne; G Lee, L O’Brien, E Woulfe; K O’Leary, O Ryan; C McNamara, D Murphy, I Kennelly; A O’Sullivan, R Delee, R Ambrose (capt.).

Laois v Carlow; LOETB Centre of Excellence
A Leinster derby pits Laois, relegated from Division 2, against Carlow, promoted as champions from Division 4.
This is a real chance for Carlow to continue on their upward curve, and particularly on the back of Bennekerry-Tinryland’s stunning success in the AIB All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship.
Laois finished their 2024 campaign being relegated from the TG4 Senior Championship and they’ll look to regroup in the months ahead.
Carlow reached another TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship semi-final but suffered heartbreak against Louth.

Louth’s 2024 campaign ended at Croke Park, when the Wee County suffered defeat to Fermanagh in the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Championship Final.
They won just two of their seven Division 3 League fixtures last year, but were well clear of the relegation standings, as Antrim and Sligo dropped to Division 4.
Cavan are in Division 3 after suffering relegation last year, and the Breffni County will hope to feature in the promotion race.
But Division 3 is a highly competitive division and the battle for the coveted top two slots will prove intriguing.

Smyth scored 1-9 in the TG4 All-Ireland Junior Final last August and the prolific Derrygonnelly Harps star matched that tally in Round 1 of the 2025 Lidl NFL.
