The €3.5m Connacht GAA Air Dome in Bekan has been destroyed by high winds from Storm Éowyn.

The Mayo based facilty was hit by high gusts during the middle of the night and around 4am the dome was ripped apart.

Opened in 2020, the dome has hosted FBD League games in the past and is a hive of activity with its ability to host games regardless of the weather. It also was the venue for GAA Congress in 2022.

"We have been unable to get out to the site to assess the damage as the winds are too high," Connacht GAA Secretary John Prenty tolf RTE Sport.

"The plan is we'll tidy up the site in the next week. We will rebuild it."

Prenty also confimred that the venue is insured against such damage.
