New Dublin football manager Ger Brennan says he feels “very fortunate” to be given the opportunity to steer the capital men’s ship.
The news was confirmed on Friday afternoon that Brennan has been appointed as Dessie Farrell’s successor on a three-year term, with the latter having stepped down at the end of June following five seasons in charge which included All-Ireland SFC triumphs in 2020 and 2023.
This past season saw Brennan guiding Louth to the county’s first Leinster SFC title in 68 years and he would step down from his post with the Wee County at the beginning of last month following two years at the helm.
Speaking to Dubs TV after confirmation of his appointment yesterday, Brennan stated: "I feel very fortunate to have been given this opportunity to continue to build and add to the success of my predecessors, a couple of great men who I've been fortunate enough to play under.
"I've thoroughly enjoyed my experiences elsewhere over the last number of years. I learned quite along that journey, making new friends too. And with Dessie stepping away after an incredible six years of service that he gave - and more than that with the Under-20s and minors and his own playing career - the stars aligned in terms of myself and the opportunity that's here right now.
"As a player myself, something we were always taught by managers and coaches, was try to leave the jersey in a better place. That's something I'll be working hard at. To ensure that when my term comes to an end that I've been able to build on the success of my predecessors."
On his backroom team, the former Dublin defender added: "There'll be a nice blend of continuity from Dessie Farrell's set-up. And then I'll integrate a couple of guys I would have played with myself over the years and they're very much looking forward to getting involved."
