Ronan Sheehan’s Down side made it two wins from two in the Allianz Hurling League Division 2 by seeing off Derry on a 2-26 to 0-13 scoreline in Owenbeg.

The Mourne men led by doubles scores (0-14 to 0-7) at the halfway stage and added a Ronan Beatty point in the opening minutes of the resumption before Tom McGrattan’s goal from a free really left Derry with a mountain to climb.

Five minutes later and Eoghan Sands’s goal would leave the margin at a dozen points before Down eventually won out by 19 in the end.

Kildare got up and running in their league campaign thanks to an emphatic 2-28 to 0-17 win over Kerry in Newbridge this afternoon.

After losing out to Down by three points on opening weekend, the Lilywhites bounced back in style with a 17-point victory against their Munster counterparts.

Cathal Dowling’s goal four minutes in set the tone for the hosts, who went on to lead by 1-14 to 0-8 at the half, before David Qualter hammered in their second major three minutes into the restart on route to a comfortable win.
