Cavan Club Championships 2018

At half time in Kingscourt I was thinking, finally Rahan have shaken off their fear of winning the big one. Halfway through the second half and it looks like 'here we go again'. In the end, the manner of this win should stand to them in the final. It has to be now. Fair play to Lavey for their guts in fighting to the end.

Not good. But Drumlane only won the county final 6 days ago and most of the panel were on the beer for 3 days. Emyvale had 2 weeks peperation. It was gonna tell in the end. Not making excuses just pointing out the facts, im from Killygarry aswell. Emyvale would be a strong outfit aswell so I hear.

Last year our champions had 2 wins and a draw in Ulster and got beat in the final by a couple of points, where was the Monaghan champions?

They beat possibly the 2 worst teams in it .

Where were the junior and intermediate champions?

Look back over the past 10 years - how have they all faired out?

Why do you want to look at the past? If you want to look at the past cavan have 5 all Ireland's Monaghan have 0.

Good game in Kingscourt yesterday, Castlerahan's experience told in the end, it's a pity for Lavey that they were so over reliant on Shane Tierney who was outstanding. Lavey's first half left themselves with too much to do, their goalkeeper seem to only know how to kick the ball straight down the middle and a lot of castlerahan scores came off this. Castlerahan dominated midfield with David Wright having a fine game. It will be an interesting final but i'd give the edge to the ballyjamesduff men, Crosserlough are young and naive and I reckon Castlerahan's experience will be the difference again

Saw Paul Fitzpatrick had up that Castlerahan scored 1 18 from play. Wright scored four. He was brilliant. An option for Cavan?

Wright was the best man on the pitch, overshadowed all the county men around him. Wasn't as involved second half when Lavey moved Gerry Smith out to midfield but that move should have come earlier.

Mackey over the 60 minutes was poor. Unfortunate to hear his own supporters calling for him to be taken off but looks like he will be an impact sub at most next year for the county team. He's a long time on the road and owes nobody anything.

I thought Karl Duke got very little from the referee. Fouled on a number of occasions when high ball played into him.

Thrilling second half though.

I thought Mackey was good. Scored four points and set up a bit too. A lot of play went through him. I was beside supporters on terrace and never heard one say take him off.

They certainly were calling for it in the covered stand. He kicked some wides and shots into the keeper's hands. I thought young Cusack did a good job on him in both games. I have him down for 3 points, not 4.

David Wright and Thomas Galligan are the two players I'd be trying at midfield next year.

Lavey did rely on Shane Tierney to get them scores but Castlerahan relied on a Kerry man and a Meath man who I have to say both played really well yesterday.Castlerahan have good local players on the bench.Dont know how that goes down with them but I suppose it doesn't matter as long as you win.

A very entertaining game of football in Kingscourt yesterday have to say that I really enjoyed it. Fair play to Lavey a lot of lesser teams would have folded at half time but they regrouped and gave everything for their club. A big shout out to the Gaels of Kingscourt what a great venue and stewarding on both weekends was top class. Looking forward to the Final ,bunting and flags to go up.

It's not unusual to have outsiders play with clubs in the county. Normally it comes about when they have been moved to the area to work. Many clubs are doing it and this will not change and why not better to have them playing than sitting watching the game. Not many clubs can say they have not used this to their advantage and counties for that matter. Before any finger pointing starts I know Larry Tompkins and Shay Fahy played for Cork.

I do find it unusual the number of top quality players that have decided to live in Ballyjamesduff in recent years

Sounds like sour grapes gudtimecharlie. A managers job is to play the best players at his disposal regardless of their geography.
And speaking of same the Gowna management need to take a long hard luck at themselves.Didnt start one of their county player in a semi final. Took off the forward who had scored 1 1 at half time and left on players who didn't get a kick of the ball. Disgraceful.

They didn't get a lot of recognition this year, were down as underdogs for the final, but Mullahoran put in some performance yesterday to win the Intermediate championship. Very poor year by their standards last year, but a very good young team now, with a sprinkling of the older more experienced heads, showed that going down in League and Championship allowed them to reset and have a great campaign to bounce back straight away. Have always been there or there about for years in Senior ranks, so great to see them back up where they belong.

Disappointed with Cuchulainns a bit though. They were by far the better team in the first 15/20 mins but made a lot of bad decisions, and hit a lot of wides and the match was somehow level after 20 minutes, even though they should have been far ahead. Mullahoran went on to take the lead and never relinquished it. When the first goal came early in the second half, they just seemed to lose their heads, and Mullahoran played them off the park. Some talent the 17 year old Cormac O'Reilly is (son of Damien). Scored 1-5, and got man of the match, definitely one to watch out for. Lets hope they can win a few matches in Ulster now. Up against the Down champs in a few weeks.
