Listened to the final on Northern Sound and it sounded like a great game, with plenty of positive attacking football from both sides. Thought Crosserlough had it after the goal went in but Castlerahan's experience told in the end. Fair play to the Rahan on finally breaking the hoodoo - there won't be a Dub milked in Ballyduff tonight! As for Crosserlough, there is serious potential in that team and they'll surely bag a title in the next few years. TheBlackDeath (Cavan) - Posts: 74 - 21/10/2018 22:10:17 2147557 Link 0 |
Between the two teams 18 past students of St Clares College BJD played in the senior final today. 10 for Crosserlough and 8 for Castlerahan. diver (Cavan) - Posts: 39 - 21/10/2018 22:40:49 2147566 Link 0 |

I am not a gaels man but thats a brave statement IamADragon. I myself expect the gaels to be there or there about come the business end of things come 2019. Not sure the person that has been named as new manager can do anything with them but with the right back room team I would not write the gaels off at all. Congratulations to Castlerahan glad to see some great servants finally get a senior medal I am happy for them for sure. Crosserlough will be back for more good luck to them. Unfortunately I missed the game but the reports from it are good and a great crowd as well. Sean The Quiet Man (Cavan) - Posts: 4601 - 22/10/2018 09:42:30 2147597 Link 0 |
if that game is the yardstick for the way our county team will play next year then i'm more than happy with that.!!!!! i really enjoyed that game, it was fast, direct, traditional in some approaches, players mixed the play short and long and some fantastic scores. it was a clean yet hard game and i have to commend some of the players that took some big hits and tackles they got up and got on with it. delighted for castlerahan. the penalty imo was no penalty. but look there was still 20 minutes to go in the game so even though it was the changing of the game there was still time for crosserlough. overall crosserlough have the better future. when i listed all the things above, good scores, good tackling, fluid attacking play i refer mostly to crosserlough. they have a great future and there's a couple or more titles waiting for them once they work hard and learn the harsh lessons from yesterday. their half forward line in particular was very good. i do wonder why they didn't put mc veety in the full forward line though coming near the end. granted castlerahan may have crowded him out but it'd have left space for their other forwards who were doing really well. theweanling (Cavan) - Posts: 414 - 22/10/2018 10:24:36 2147611 Link 0 |

Wow, what a bitter little comment. What have the Gaels got to do with anything, they were an irrelevance in this championship, played 5 games and only won 1, and even that was against a team with nothing to play for.

They played the Gaels in the championship and bet them in the league final.

Was a great final and such fantastic support for both teams.Well done to Castlerahan on finally getting the win. They made a great comeback and their older players really made the difference in the end. Crosserlough will be competing for honours in the near future I have no doubt. marita (None) - Posts: 468 - 22/10/2018 13:00:07 2147662 Link 0 |

That was a great final to end an enjoyable championship. Congratulations to Castlerahan, delighted for Ronan Flanagan in particular. A team player if there ever was one. MadgeKing (Cavan) - Posts: 493 - 23/10/2018 23:37:51 2148025 Link 0 |
Cavan went out of the championship at the end of June yet it took 4 months to playoff the Senior championship. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 975 - 24/10/2018 11:19:21 2148084 Link 0 |
Who is everbodys pick for Ulster Club? I see Castlerahan are 33/1 outsiders. I cant see past Scotstown, They are littered with quality players all over the field. Gaoibh Dobhair from Donegal may also have a big say. YOUWONTCODME (Cavan) - Posts: 125 - 24/10/2018 11:56:25 2148095 Link 0 |
Cavan went out of the championship at the end of June yet it took 4 months to playoff the Senior championship. Monaghan played in the Super 8s and got to an All Ireland Seni Final yet finished their championship a week earlier than we did. So something drastically Wrong there. Inaroundehouse (Cavan) - Posts: 764 - 24/10/2018 11:19:21 Club finals are taking place all over the country the last few weekends. It's pretty standard to play them around now no matter when county's exited the championship. RHF (Cavan) - Posts: 878 - 24/10/2018 12:04:44 2148098 Link 1 |
Monaghan champions were out in preliminary round in Ulster. It would make no sense to finish Cavan champ months before Ulster club. The county board finished the league so give them credit. We've also just had our most enjoyable championship in years and Breffni looks unreal.

My point is if we ever got to the super8s the club championship wouldn't be over until Christmas.

Don't be worrying lots of county football finals On in the last week or two and from county's that wasn't in the super 8s either, just enjoy what has been a good championship and a great final, and what's more there is lots to look forward to in club football over the next few years with v good young senior teams, And there won't be a lot between 6 or 7 clubs so it makes for a good championship. blueman1903 (Cavan) - Posts: 885 - 24/10/2018 15:15:24 2148138 Link 0 |
Don't be too worried about that....

Yes it would. Sure there were week breaks here and there and two weeks and even a three week break for semis. Still had two weeks to spare. The way the fixtures were run off were excellent this year. All senior footbalp done and dusted.

Great win for Mullahoran this afternoon, refreshing to see a cavan club doing well in Ulster. No reason Castlerahan shouldn't continue this trend tomorrow and get to a semi final or a final. They have plenty of experienced players, they've had plenty of time to prepare for this game and they aren't against an overly outstanding side. I expect the boys from ballyduff to win this game by a few points IamADragon (Cavan) - Posts: 306 - 03/11/2018 16:50:49 2149416 Link 0 |
