Two-time All-Ireland winning midfielder Tom Kenny has joined Cork hurling manager John Meyler's backroom team for the rest of the season.

The Grenagh clubman, who began his inter-county career with the Cork footballers, formed a powerful midfield partnership with Jerry O'Connor when the Rebels won the Liam MacCarthy Cup in 2004 and '05. He also collected four Munster SHC medals during an illustrious career.

A statement from Cork GAA to the Evening Echo read: “Tom Kenny has joined the senior hurling management team and brings a wealth of experience to the CSH team. Tom will be assisting the coaching team.”

The Rebels' bid for a third straight Munster SHC title was ended by defeat to Clare a fortnight ago, but they are still in the All-Ireland race and will face the losers of Sunday's McDonagh Cup final between Westmeath and Laois in the All-Ireland preliminary quarter-final next weekend.
