The contenders for this one are Kildalkey, Moynalvey, Dunshaughlin, Navan O'Mahony's and Summerhill.
The club scene is as strong as ever in the Royal County. Some outstanding games and achievements were witnessed throughout the year. We take a look at what we think were the best.
Kildalkey stormed to a three in a row of Meath SHC titles with a comfortable win over O'Mahony's in this year's decider. Mairtin Doran had the honour of captaining the side for the past three years. The club also won the U21 B Hurling Championship, the Minor B championship and the U15 B title. To complete a memorable year Rathmolyon were defeated in the Division 1 SHL decider at Lomans Park Trim. Clubman Derek Doran also received the county board Senior Hurler of the Year award.
Moynalvey are very strong contenders for this one. John Donoghue led his charges to the IFC title. The Junior C's claimed their championship by defeating Na Fianna in the decider. The cap a wonderful year the club's minors won the MFL Division 2 and just lost out to Ratoath in the championship decider.
What a year it was for Dunshaughlin. They surprised many by reaching the Keegan Cup decider beating big guns like Seneschalstown, Simonstown and Donaghmore Ashbourne along the way. It took a replay and extra time to separate them and Summerhill. To cap a fine year Dunshaughlin beat Blackhall Gaels to win the Feis Cup.
As per usual Navan O'Mahony's were to the fore when honours were handed out. The senior footballer's suffered a disappointing defeat to eventual winners Summerhill at the quarter final stages. Davy Nelson's men kept training and were rewarded with a senior league title. The senior hurlers reached the final for the first time since 1986. The junior hurlers defeated Boardsmill to win the championship. With players like Daragh Maguire, Daragh Smyth, Jake Regan, Shane Gillespie and Alan Forde in their ranks the club's U21 footballers brushed aside the challenge of Gaeil Colmcille in the decider. The junior footballers reached the final only to lose out to a strong Ballivor outfit. Throw in an U16 FL title and numerous underage honours and you will see that the Brews Hill club are in a very good place.
Summerhill last won the Keegan Cup in 1986. At the beginning of the year they were tipped by many to go the whole way. Declan McCabe took over from Padraig Lyons and Mattie Kerrigan. Despite losing to Wolfe Tones and Simonstown in the group, Summerhill beat O'Mahony's in the quarter final and Wolfe Tones in the semi. A replay and extra time were required before Tony McDonnell could raise the Keegan Cup. The club also produced winning teams at U14, U15 and U16 level to cap a fine year.
